I think this is the start of my third week back at work and to be perfectly honest, my next op can't come soon enough. Getting my knee fixed and my fitness back on track is always in the back of my mind and sometimes makes it difficult to focus on the task at hand. Needless to say I'm pretty exhausted come home time each day.

This week I've dropped back to one session of physio each week as my therapist thinks that it's just a matter of getting the strength back in my leg (quads) as I've maintained really good ROM. Massage has played an important role in my recovery and is the best part of my week.

Pre op appointment still on for 10 April and I think I'm going to go with cadaver tendon for both ACL & MPFL - I keep changing my mind but that's the decision for today.

New diet kicks off tomorrow as I need to drop a few kilos before the next op - I've gained 3.6kg since my last op  :-\

Hey, I've been eating my pain lol!

Sep 10 - confirmed ACL & medial meniscus tear
Dec 11 - chronic patellar dislocation - MPFL tear
23 Feb 12 - scope, MUA & 50% medial meniscectomy

Hi Karen,

The diet made me laugh. :D  That's what I've been doing while I wait for my new date.  I actually miss using my treadmill.

It must be hard working with the discomfort.  Being older and retired does have it's benefits.

Is yours 4/17?  Maybe I can aim for around there.  Hope to hear from Rachel soon.  Hers was Saturday.

Take care!

I'm surprised everyone seems to gain weight after surgery....I always feel so sick with the Tramadol and codeine that I lose weight. I've lost almost 1/2 stone in 10 days. Not good as I'm tiny anyway. I tried cutting back on pain relief today to get the appetite up but now my knee is screaming at me.

Oh Bunny, ouch!  I hope you feel better soon.   I think it's the inactivity after the pain lets up some.  Plus food equals comfort, sometimes  ;)

Hi Jo! Yep, my second (and final) op is 3 weeks away. What's happening with you in terms of rescheduling your surgery?

Bunny, as soon as I'm off my pain medication after my next op, I can almost guarantee that all the weight I've lost will be back on within weeks - chocolate is my Achilles Heel and part of me is enjoying a break from training. The medication doesn't sit too well in my tummy either   :( I'd always opt for the quiet knee as opposed to the full tummy but I sure hope you can get your appetite back soon.

Jo, I haven't seen anything from Rachel since her op. I'm sure it went well. Perhaps it went so well that she's been out dancing the disco to celebrate? Probably a little ambitious at this early stage.

Ok, ok, I'm gonna have to start that diet tomorrow.....or soon thereafter. I'll try but in the meantime, I'll keep working on my limp and I really should be spending more time on my bike!

Hi Karen,
I see a cardio Friday.  Hoping he'll get to the bottom of my fainting spells.  This floor is hard when I hit it  :(

I checked the post ops for Karen and still no sign.  You're right, she must be out dancing.

Take care.

9 sleeps until my next operation and it's time to prepare a list! My surgeon has told me that I can expect to spend 2-3 days in hospital after the procedure.

LIST:

- dry shampoo (not sure how long it'll be before the prospect of washing my hair isn't exhausting)

- collect pj pants from tailor (having left leg of 2 pairs taken up to provide easy access to Dennis)

- new books??

I can't really think of much else. That's where you guys jump in! Any suggestions?

Love the 9 sleeps.  My Canadian cousins use that.  We borrowed it and use it with our grandsons now.  Sounds so much better than 9 days ;-)
Take care.

The shower chair will help so much! I've used mine since my third surgery and it's a so much easier to shower without having to balance.

I'm borrowing for you list!

What is an over toilet aid?  I should look into a shower chair.

By the time you read this it will be one more sleep for you!

Hey Jo,

The over toilet aid is just like a chair but with a toilet seat. You simply place it over your existing toilet (in the same way your would stack chairs on top of one another) and the four legs are adjustable so you can raise it nice and high. It's great for me because my knees would normally be just a touch higher than my hips if I was sitting on my toilet at it's usual height. This way, I really only need to lean back slightly and I'm there! What's more, I can progressively lower it as my ROM improves and then eventually end up back on the actual toilet seat.

Do you have a better idea of what I mean? I didn't get a shower chair as there's a step/lip that I won't be able to get over post op so it'll be strictly bath time for me.

I get the picture  8) I'll be very careful finding my way down.  On the bright side I have a high rise bed.

One more sleep for you?  It must be very late where you are.  About how many hours until your surgery?  I'll be thinking good thoughts.

Take care.
