Hi everyone

Its been a while since ive been here hope you are all managing ok

After being told by my last os that he is not going tto do anything to find out why i stil cannot walk and physio and pain clinic giving up on me to i stoped caring as such about being fixed. But i have know decided that sod them i am going to try and find someone in the uk who will be willing to keep searching until we know what is wrong with  my knee. So with the go ahead from my gp to do my own research and ccontact as many os as i want to see if somebody will accept me i think i may have found someone. He has agreed to see me and from what i have read he sounds very good.

But with not knowing how many times i could see different os and being a bit worried of using up my last chance of finding help as this will be my 5th os i will hhave seen, i though i would see anybody has ever used him. He is professor  turner from manchester and does sound very good etc but has anybody actualy had him as an os?

Thanks
Hels x

Hi, sorry I don't know anything about him so this won't be very helpful.  I just wanted to say that it doesn't matter how many surgeons you see, I saw about 8 on the NHS, they all said that there was nothing wrong.  I have also seen 2 private surgeons who both found everything straight away.  Any good surgeon should agree to see you, I didn't know they even refused.  Make sure you find someone who specialises in what you think is wrong with your knee, if you have an idea eg/ patellofemoral joint stuff/ligament injuries/bone deformities etc.  A lot of surgeons seem to just specialise in knee replacements, arthroscopies and cartilage and ligament damage.
It's a horrible situation to be in isn't it.  I can't walk either, I'm 22 and I can only stand up for 5 minutes now.  I understand how you feel, if you ever want to talk.  Keep looking until you find what's wrong, don't worry about the amount of surgeons.  You could see 20 rubbish ones who don't know what's wrong, that's not your fault.  Good luck, I hope it all gets better.

Hi jenny

Sorry to hear ur problems it isnt a nice thing to go through at any age but harder when ur so young as you end up missing out on so much. I was 22 when i fell on my knee and am now nearly 30 (gutted haha) and havnt been able to walk properly since i fell on it but cannot walk at all without crutches since 2007 and in severe pain 24/7. I got sacked from my job as a vet nurse which was my childhood ddream to become, i didnt even finish my training as was half way through  my last year when the knee kicked off big time. I hate not having a life and relying on other people to do things for me even the easiest of thing!!  My nieces aand nephew have never seen me without crutches and i miss out on sso much not bein able to play etc with them :(

I have always tried tto stay positive that i would get fixed and be able to walk again but after the last os wasnt willing to help me and being told it would be very unlikly any other os would either, and then physio giving up and also the pain clinic i started to loose hope of ever geting answers  and so kinda gave up it didnt help that when my pain doc sent to do a pain management course, i was refused by the psychiatrist on the course because i was too positive!! But i now realise it is my life and i dont want to be stuck llike tthis for ever without even knowing why im stuck like this. I know there is a chance its not fixable but all i realy want to know what the heck is actually wrong with the bloody thing! Fingers crossed this guy can give me some answers and hopfully not do what my last os did wwhich was tell me yes there is something mechanically wrong with the knee but i dont know what and dont feel i can find out either so im discharging you!! I was not impressed at all. They try and tell you to stay positive but how can you when you get answers like that hence why i kinda  gave up for a ffew months, but im back and rready to fight haha.

I hope you manage to get sorted and have an os who is willing to keep helping you xx
