Soft tissue knee surgery for dislocation and now an MUA...
« on: February 05, 2012, 08:32:11 PM »
Hi, firstly I am completely new to the whole blogging thing so please bare with me…

My whole issue started when I was 11 when my knee first dislocated, since then it dislocated about 8 times and I was referred to a specialist surgeon. On the 30th August 2011 I had soft tissue surgery on my left knee (don’t know the complete details but I had the muscle on the inside moved and tightened and a lateral release I think) has anyone else had something like this? My surgeon made sure I was aware that the surgery could not be a complete solution as I have internally rotated femurs so I might need a femoral anteversion.  :/

Anyway now I am 22 weeks post op and 16weeks out of plaster and about 12 weeks out of a brace and I still have very limited motion, in a lot of pain and quite reliant on crutches. I have been booked into a MUA on the 8th of March and he wants me to stay in for 4 days afterwards to use the CPM machine, to try and improve my extension and bend. Has anyone had this? Is it worth it? What is it like?

Please help? I am only 17 and quite confused/scared :/

THANKYOU  :D

Hang in there kiddo.  You are a trooper and can tell you that you will need this toughness to get you thru to your eventual recovery.  It may take quite some time, but day at a time will certainly serve you well right now.

Hopefully, you will have the luxury of working with a PT.  If not, stay religious and steadfast to doing home exercises the best you can.  I just had my forth knee surgery and trust me, there is a certain amount of depression that comes along with these type set backs, and no one can understand until they experience similar issues.

Work hard, but don't over do it!  RICE!!!  Baby steps.  Soon you will start seeing progress......It's like a true test of adversity.  Some days you take 4 steps forward, then 2 back.

Hang in there!!

It kind of sounds like you had a similar surgery to mine.  How large was your incision?  Mine was about 10cm long.  They did a lateral release and tightened everything on the medial side.  You can check out my post-op at "Lateral release and patella stabilization surgery".

Hey,

Thank you for the encouragement and advice!  :D Still not sure whether to go ahead with the MUA though, Physio today implied that it will be very painful afterwards :/

Krunzer: my scar is about 10cm ish long too, straight over the front of my knee, the operations do sound similar...  thank you, will check out your post op now!

Thankyou  :)
