Extent of my injury!
« on: October 24, 2011, 03:22:55 PM »
Hi all

I've just got back from my physio who's enlightend
Me to what I had done in my knee.
Up to now all I knew was i'd had surgery to my later meniscus.
She told me i'd had part of the meniscus removed and another tear sutured together?
Also i'd had a trim to my cartledge and that when my knee gave way the last time i'd torn the lcl and partialy torn the pcl, so that's why I was in plaster and then a full leg brace for so long to help the lcl and meniscus to heal.

To say I was shocked was an understatement.
Question is what's the outcomes of these kind of injuries, and is it possible to return to sports?
I used to play tennis twice a week before this.
Thanks barry

Hi Slippyknee,

Firstly, I want to say is that I feel your pain. I have had a PCL, LCL and PLC reconstruction back in May, and I am far from getting back to sports. The OS said the recovery takes around 9months to 2years before you could get back to real sports e.g. basketball.

Be positive, you will get back to sports but you need a lot of patience..

You can ask me all the questions you have!!

Good luck mate

thanks for the reply.

i`ve got to say my injuries no where near as bad as your`s, but bad enough :o it was mid june when i initially injured my knee, surgery followed 2 weeks later.
now almost 5 months on and i feel like i`ve got a mountain to climb just to be ble towalk properly again,
i`ve been @ physio for 4 weeks now, and my progress is quite slow, got bad wastage of muscles and am stuck @ 30% extension, won`t budge past that.

i`m still limping and the back of my knee aches quite a bit after physio and to much walking,
i`ve tried walking without my brace on a couple of times, ok at first then after about ten min`s or so it
feels like my knee wants to give way again.

oh by the way my lcl was grade 2 pcl strechted, i had abuot 5mm of sag but that`s improving now though.

how are you getting along now, stability and pain wise? and have you any tips?

thanks barry
