No pain?
« on: October 22, 2011, 07:12:42 PM »
Hi -just joined and am trying to get info. Came out of menisectomy surgery with unexpected additional microfracture :'(. Very surprised and unhappy. I'm 6 weeks NWB and cant believe i'll realistically make it that long (its been 1 week). Ive been good so far-haven't put any weight on my knee yet. I feel as though I could walk perfectly though. I have no pain, just a little bit if I go past 120o (I could get to 90 within a day). Am I just lucky or does the real pain start when I start walking on it?

I had a femerol MFX in my experience you are lucky this early with no pain, however there probably will be an increase at first when beggining to bear weight.  Be very careful to follow instructions from your doctor and pt I thought I did and mine failed and I am 10 days from ACI procedure.

Good Luck,
Laurie :)

Laurie,
Thanks for replying.  This is my 6th knee surgery (4 on right and 2 on left).  I really dont want TKR. I am trying to listen to the dr. I just feel like 6 weeks is so long.  I would die if I played by all the rules and found out my MF didn't work! I have been biking very easy, low resistance and going harder with just one leg. I get my stitches out on Thurs and then I hope to swim and water run.  When did you know the MFX didn't work?

Laurie,
Carticel does the same thing as MFX-fill in cartilage holes with own cells but without the drilling?  What about NWB?

Tracy,
You are right about Carticel however the cells are of a different type.  The cells from MFX are actually from bone marrow stimulation.  Carticel is actual cartilege cells.  The ACI is also an open proedure with a hospital stay (depending on the doctor) I was told at least 2 nights.  I think I will be nwb for 6 weeks.  I will learn more at my preop.  The Dr also mentioned possible osteotomy will find that out on Friday too.
After my MFX I was only nwb for 1 week and then pbw as long as knee was locked straight.

Good Luck,
Laurie :)
