Can someone tell me what my xray results mean please .....
« on: July 22, 2011, 05:10:13 AM »
 ???
Hi can some please explain what my xray results mean?.. ive been still having alot of pain since my knee injury for a miniscal tear nearly 2yrs ago and have had 2 athroscopys.

Here is what the findings were of the xray:
There is minimal narrowing of the medial compartment of the left knee joint with slight spurring of the tibial spines. There is very early osteophyte motion around the lateral aspect of the left tibial plateau. The patellofemoral joint is normal in appearance.
The PA view of the right knee shows early osteophyte formation around the medial compartment.
IMPRESSION: Mild degenerative change in the medial compartment of both knees and minimal changes in the lateral compartment of the left knee.

So if anyone can interpret the above for me i would be most grateful.

Thank you.

This basically means that you have some early signs of arthritis possibly as a result of your injury or it could be general wear and tear. Difficult to know whether this is causing your pain as a lot of people will have this type of X-ray appearance without many symptoms. X-rays are not a great investigation for general knee symptoms as they do not give a lot of information so I am not sure why you were x-rayed when you had already had 2 arthroscopies.

If you google "osteophyte" I think you'll find that they can be the cause of your continuing pain. Do a search here on them and also "bone spurs" which is what they are more commonly called.

This will give you a bit of info but it is only Wiki with all that implies about accuracy, etc!

Yes i agree with you, its been through our medical insurance provider here in NZ. They sent me nearly 2yrs ago when i had my kneee injury for xrays&MRI's to rule out any degenration which they did so i was able to get cover at the time for my arthroscopy. And now they try to say i have patellar tendinosis (& degeneration) which i thought is diagnosed by a ultrasound not a xray.. very confusing for me & frustrating with this ongoing pain. Its like dragging around dead weight.
Any more advice is greatly appreciated.
Also if anyone knows of a honest knee specialist in New Zealand please let me know.

Thank you again.
