Unloader post meniscus removal and fulkerson, LR?
« on: July 17, 2011, 03:10:04 PM »
Hi All,

I posted this is the meniscus section but thought it might work here also...

I have had knee realignment (TTT), hip realignment on the same side and a medial meniscus partial removal previously.

Since then, I still have medial knee pain and it is triggered the same way as when I had a a torn meniscus.  Problem is - the MRI shows no medial tear.

I recently saw a new knee doc (after frustration with my previous doc) to try and resolve some of the medial knee pain.  He tried a cortisone shot, which I didnt really notice to have any effect.  He also prescribed me with a Bledsoe unloader brace.

My question is, I haven't read of uses for an unloader brace other than osetoarthritis.  I have never heard any of my docs mention OA (I am only 23) so I am curious if this is the right brace for me.  I ordered it - as I am desperate to try anything - but wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with an unloader brace post meniscus tear, or even post realignment?

My goal is to wear it when I am exercising to give my knee some more stability and reduce some of the triggered pain while exercising - not to wear on a daily basis because it is so large.

Might also be helpful to say that I don't think my meniscus tear was very serious - as they did not have to remove the entire thing in surgery.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi there,
Unloaders are used for meniscus injury/surgery.
I had 80% of my lateral meniscus removed & use a brace for that along with ligament issues,
I try not to use it on a daily basis(depending how knee feels daily)
But for exercising it's a must I could not be without the brace.
Hope it helps you. Good luck bd
