Possible MCL Damage?

Hello KneeGeeks,

Since about the beginning of the month my knee has been giving me trouble.  In the beginning the entirety of my knee felt inflamed, but that has since gone away.  The problem that hasn't gone away is that if I don't move me knee for a while it hurts and stiffens up when I try to move it again.  If I sit down for a meal with my leg bent for a while I have trouble straightening it when I go to stand up.  Once I get moving for a  while there doesn't seem to be much discomfort.  It's the same when I wake up in the morning and am moving it for the first time.

The pain that I feel is mainly in the MCL, the larger tendon running down the inside of the knee.  I am a professional martial artist and am on my feet most of the day.  I also do not have health insurance, so going in for an MRI is not possible.  I have started to do RICE as much as possible.

I don't remember doing anything to make my knee "pop" or specifically damage it.  Has anyone heard of anything like this?
