8 days post op and boy am I done!
« on: March 15, 2011, 11:02:10 PM »
I forgot how yucky this post op period is. It was 14 years ago since my last surgery and I was single and not a mom. It is much worse laying here not being able to take care of my family. :(. My back hurts, my behind hurts and my knee well not so awesome either!  Just bored out of my mind!  Sorry to whine, just needed to get that out to someone who will understand. :(.

Mine are 8 and 10. They are being very helpful as is my husband. Just hard when my son comes to me and says he can't find jeans. Lol. Can't do stairs yet so there goes me helping with laundry!  Don't you hate feeling helpless and whiny! So glad there are others in my shoes. I don't think you can understand these feelings if you haven't been there!

mcmurrow.
It is hard but eveything will work out it is just a time thing. :)
I have 4 girls 23,20, 18, 15.  I had surgery almost 5 weeks ago. My oldest 2 are out of the house but the 2 younger ones have been excellent.  It is a good learning curve for the kids, it helps them learn empathy and how to help those who need help because of physical limitations. So try and look at it as in important life step, not something that will scar them for life.  I think it helps them to be more well rounded kids.
well take care, hope you are up and about soon.

Thanks for the kind words!  You know it won't last forever, just hard to get through at the time. This surgery was lat release/ vmo advancement/ quad ligament tear repair. This was surgery number7 but it's been a while since the last one. Praying this fixes the issues. Don't want to do this again!  I hope everyone elses recovery is going well!

Yeah, its not a fun surgery. I hate being immobilized the most. Ready to get going with working on bending and strengthening. It is a long road!  When was your surgery?

Just a few cents. You will not be in it forever and your kids will manage also. It's good for them to learn the natural way.
I'm in wheelchair since some years. My kids has grown up with me partly like this.
I remember when my son was 3, he could even brew coffee and make breakfast.
Kids in general do love to help out and that gives them selfconfidence.
I wish all of you a speedy recovery./Nettan

So sorry you are having a tough time. Any kind of surgery is rough but it sounds like you had lots of work done so I'm sure recovery will be difficult. Hang in there! About the kid thing don't worry as Nettan said it only makes them stronger. My kids have also grown up with me on crutches always and now I am wheelchair bound, I think it has only made them more sincere people who understand the reality of real life problems. I get comments from my youngest sons teacher that he is so helpful, I know why I just don't say anything, hes used to being helpful.

Mine was done in 1994, but needs to be revised. The technique used on me was discontinued because of complications and I'm suffering from those complications now. So I'm at the point of weighing going through it again vs. living with the complications.

Net and Kim i aplolgize for complaining. I know its not forever and it could be a lot worse. Was just down when i posted and needed a tiny motivation.  :). Was finally able to leave these four walls yesterday for 30 min and enjoy fresh air!  That was helpful!   Yes, kids are very helpful as mine are. My 10 yr old even cleaned the family room and kitchen last night which she has never done on her own. Was quite nice!

Smillie, this was actually a revision I guess. Had the same procedure back in 1995, but i was back to falling every few weeks and when i colapsed down the stairs i knew it was time. Like you, lived with it for the last 10 years, but knew it was no longer safe. Hopefully yours is not failing all the time.

No, I'm not falling, thankfully. I just have constant pressure on my patella, so any little thing flares it up and starts the pain and heat and swelling. Everything is too tight rather than too loose.

Complain away no need to apologize, I seem to be a big complainer lately too! Knee issues are hard to deal with.
