Weight bearing straight after OATS
« on: March 04, 2011, 12:58:35 PM »
my husband had an ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair and OATS 5 days ago. He had one 1x1.5cm lesion on the weight-bearing part of the femur.

A hospital physiotherapist who saw him on discharge said he is ok to try to walk without crutches. I specifically asked her if the fact that he had OATS changes his rehab program in any way and she said no.

My husband also talked to the OS after surgery (before talking to the physio), he didn't tell him anything about non-weight bearing.

Since then I have been reading a lot about OATS rehab and every source I have found so far says that weight bearing is not allowed in the first few weeks.

My husband isn't able to bear weight anyway and he certainly will need crutches for a while, but I was wondering if anyone else was allowed to bear weight straight after surgery? Not sure if it matters, but we are in Australia.
(we are seeing the OS on Tuesday, so will definitely ask him about that, just wondering about others' experiences).
