Open PLC repair & Lateral release
« on: March 02, 2011, 07:45:28 AM »
How long does it take to heal from a open plc repair and lateral release. I had the surgery 2 and half weeks ago on my right knee.  I am in a hinged knee brace unlocked to 90 ( although not getting to 90) during the day and locked at 0 at night and still on crutches, 50%weight bearing. Just wondering how long I have to feel good

Hi Vollyballknees,

I'm supposed to be having a PLC reconstruction in a few days and wanted to kno what you think of the operation? Did you regain stability in your knee?

Also my surgeon plan to pull out my whole hamstring tendon through the front of my knee then use it to fix my PLC? is this ahow you has it done?

Please answer quickly as my operation is in a few days and any info ould help me decide if I want to go through with it. I'm worried about it!

Hi - I had a PLC / LCL rebuild using artificial LARS ligaments (open surgery) on 2nd Dec 11, im about 14 wks on from that now and am walking fine (was full WB from about 7 wks).  Physio weekly now, lots of waddling like a duck and stepping up and down steps!

The main residual issue that I have is pain when getting up from sitting - like a gunshot through the lateral back of my knee, and a lot of IT Band pain at night and sciatic pain at night but in fairness compared to the instability and massive pain I was getting pre-op i'm happy.

Good luck with the recovery, it's a tricky reconstruction!
