Connection between hair loss and knee problems?
« on: October 30, 2003, 11:08:54 PM »
After seeing a specialist in May of this year I have been undergoing several tests to diagnose what's going on with both of my knees (XRays, ultrasounds, MRIs, etc) and I'm STILL waiting to get an appointment with a surgeon.  The Dr. won't see me again until all the tests are done.

I have noticed in the past 6 months or so I have been losing a LOT of hair.  Not in clumps, but in the shower, when I comb it, on my clothes, pillow, etc.  Recently it seems to have gotten worse and I'm starting to get worried!

Today I read about a possible connection between arthritis and hair loss.  Has any one else experienced this?  It shocked me that these problems might be related!!

Knee pain since 2001, braces, physio, taping didn't work, surgeon says its related to my other neurological problems!!

Amy...funny you should mention this. I just got out of the shower and was thinking I could make a small animal with all the hair I lost in there!

Arthroscopy 8/8/03 - partial meniscectomy (x2), chondroplasty, lateral release (failed). 1/04 - dx with "miserable alignment". 11/04 - dx patella baja.

Hi Amyrs

I would definately get the hair loss checked out . It can be a sign of other medical problems such as low thyroid and since you say it's getting worse.....please see a doctor to find out why

I have experienced this after all my surgeries. Don't know if it was the pain meds or being put under. It comes out in clumps. Don't know the correlation between arthritis and hair loss, but I do know meds and other outside influences can cause it as my dermotologist confirmed. He checked me for Lupus and thyroid problems and all came back normal so we opted for the surgeries/meds being the culprit. He recommended Rogaine to stop it. Had you thought about trying it?

Hey !

Can be that you're going through hard things which makes you stressed and that can for sure give you hair loss. I have noticed that also while going through knee- and backsurgery at same time. I think it's pretty common. But if you are worried about go see a doc.
Hope the knees get better.
