I've just had major foot surgery
« on: January 30, 2011, 06:29:56 PM »
Hi Guys,
i've just had my Rheumatoid Arthritis foot surgery, plus pelvic bone graft to stick the 10 new toes to.
My walking was really bad, my toes were badly twisted, dislocated and broken.
I have worked flat out for 35 years (self empolyed) I could'nt get time off for any operations, the surgeon said the best thing to do was to do all the damage and come back in later life,  them we'll fix them.. just what I've done.
All went well 7 weeks in now, but the Hospital left me with a tornique wound that has still not healed.
The wound is more painful than the surgery and has to be dressed by a nurse every 3 days.
I had a 5 1/2 hour operation to replace and staighten all my toes.
I have pins sticking out of them all except the big toes which were plated
The pelvic bone graft was no problem, had the 100 or so stitches out a couple of weeks ago..that hurt!
Anyone want to know what it's like to go through this kin of surgery just ask
email [email protected]
I have had pots on for 8 weeks now, they come off on 4/2/11 cant wait!
The pins are also being removed too.
I can then start trying to walk properly again then.
Oh well looking forward to doing a bit of traveling when I'm up and about... bring it on !
Cheers for now,
Andy.
