ice or heat????
« on: January 18, 2011, 09:02:39 PM »
:-\  I am new here, and I would really appreciate some help. I had right knee replaced few years ago, works well. But my other knee is my (bad) good knee. This morning I slipped on ice, and stiffened, and felt real pain in my left knee. Sitting is no problem, but standing, and walking is so painful, I can't stand it, and I have a pretty high pain threshold. Couldn't get in to dr until Thurs pm. Should I apply ice or heat?? Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you Pat Miller

Usually it is ice for the first 24/48 hours to reduce swelling or inflammation.  Then alternate heat and ice.  I would elevate the knee and ice it 20 minutes every hour or two.

Thank you twobadknees! Going try try ice right now and elevate it. Appreciate your answer. I still have my old dog and 4 adopted cats...they all adopted me. God bless...

Glad to help.  The animals should sense you are hurting and give comfort.  I know mine do.
