« on: October 10, 2003, 09:57:18 PM »
 hi everyone !

cry or not i don't know what to do. my problems started when i was young. some of you know me since earlier.
i have constant pain in my knee after several surgeries. the result is rsds and nervpain. 2 weeks ago when i paleyd wheelchair basket i got stucked with my knee between 2 wheelchairs. i'm using a brace to protect my knee, a bigger brace which stabilises the knee from the sides. after that i stated having more pain and the knee started to get stucked first when i strenghten it then i couldn't bent it again without help. now it has get stucked twice as halfbent knee. ihave been in contact with my physio. he looked at it and pulled it to get the fluid going around more in the joint. 2 days after is worse then before more pain and still locking.and i'm using morphine. what to do ? any suggesstion ? having an appointment to my os next week. i'm scared. one os said to me 2 years ago that i should have a note in my wallet saying if i'm in an accident the shouldn't do any surgery in my knee because it is so damaged as it is. he means the pain. it can only be worse. how can i live with that. 2½ years ago they tried to give me a morphine pump in my spinal. was complications. now i have a catheterpiece left in my spinal. it gave me damages on my spinal with weakness and lost sense. i can feel some in my right leg but not full and the weakness is also in my right leg. the knee problem is in my left. i'm using wheelchiar fulltime. cna anyone cheer me up or give some advice. i appriciate. meanwhile i try to help others. i go crazy if i sit not doing anythig.

Surgery 6 times left knee torn meniscus, RSDS,chondromalacia, nervdamage cause constant nervpain, chronic inflamm.
Spinaldamage wheeler 100%.
Right knee damaged aug-06, use brace surgery 4/9-07.LCL tear.

Your plight sounds very dire, indeed.  For one with such complicated problems and deep knowledge of his/her own condition, often it is helpful to schedule an appointment with the doctor performing pain management functions to indicate that the situation has changed.  It certainly sounds as if an escalation is taking place, and I urge you to seek highly specialised medical advice.

Please let us know how you get by.  I'm very sorry I have nothing to offer.  You might do a search (particularly in the patello-femoral section) and see the types of alternative remedies that people use for pain relief.  I'm not aware of the impact your nerve damage would have, but many people speak highly of TENS units on various settings, ultrasound, warm baths, capsicum creams (maybe not this one!), emu oil, lidocaine patches, taping, braces....the list is quite extensive, and I'm just paraphrasing here from earlier posts.  If the oral pain medications aren't getting it done, you may want to see about alternative treatments (always monitored by a physician).

Take care and keep us updated.

There may be a loose body (a broken piece of joint cartilage) in the joint, or another meniscal tear. There could also be a plica causing the locking. I think you need to consult with a knee expert, but with your past experience I can understand why you are afraid.
