MRI using contrast fluid?
« on: August 27, 2010, 09:54:23 PM »
Hello

Has anyone had an MRI with contrast? My OS had mentioned it may be worth having following a normal MRI showing bone bruising and a meniscus tear.

Just wondered what the procedure is? Is the fluid injected into the joint or IV? I stupidly forgot to ask!

Many thanks

I had a knee MRI with contrast dye.  It was injected directly into the joint.  Owie!

Oh no! Did you get sedation? Did it hurt alot?

Even though I had surgery in June the thought of a big needle going in my joint while I'm wide awake seems worse!  :-[

I had one done, and they did use a needle in my joint.  They numbed it before and I didn't feel anything but pressure.  It was kinda scary, but nothing hurt..no sedation.

Stasha-
I have had multiple MRI's with contrast and it was alway thru an IV.  In fact I didn't even know there were contrasts in the joint.  So sounds like you might have to ask your doctor which one is planned.  The IV one is painless.  No sensation at all.  Very easy.  The hardest part is finding the vein but I'm not an easy stick.  Good luck to you.
