Knee Guru, Anyone, I am Clueless!
« on: October 02, 2003, 07:26:11 PM »
Hi,
I got a hold of some notes from my OS and wondered if anyone could help interpret them for me.
The notes say I have significant femoral anteversion, evidence of hindfoot valgus (what in the world is that?), Q angle of 22 that corrects to around 9-10 degrees with 90 degrees of flexion (is that bad?), passive lateral tilt of -5 (??), passive lateral glide to the third quadrant (??), and type II Wiberg patella (is that normal?)

Anyway, I find this to be extremely fascinating reading material but I don't understand any of it!! ;D

Any insights would be appreciated!

Cat-

Lots of terms to try and understand.  Try these sites:

For Hindfoot valgus info try:
www.amershamhealth.com

For Wiberg patella try:
www.medscape.com

I hope these sights can give you some help.  I'm sure there are some people here who can also give you more information as well.

Q angle - "the angle between the anterior superior iliac spine and the midpoint of the patella and from the midpoint of the patella to the tibial tubercle"
What this means is 'draw a line from a certain point on the front of your hips down to the middle of the kneecap (should be about vertical), and see what angle it makes with a line drawn from the middle of the kneecap to that knob on your shin a couple of inches below the kneecap. The angle represents the line of pull of the quads muscle and is normally 13-18 degrees.

Passive lateral tilt means that the kneecap is tilted to the outer side of the knee.

Passive lateral glide to the third quadrant means that the kneecap slides sideways for an extent equal to three quarters of the width of the knecap.
