presumably if your surgery is not until 1 you would be able to eat a light breakfast before prob 8 am - ring and ask them. Good luck

Nope I'm not allowed to eat after midnight....and I just called they are having some scheduling issues and may have to push it back even more. If thats the case I don't even want to have it done. I can't imagine having it at one let alone now it may be later. I'm getting myself so nervous over here....

I also have low blood sugar and a few years ago i had my surgery scheduled for 3 in the afternoon. Like you I was not permitted to eat after 12 midnight. What I did to get thru this was eat a HUGE meal right about 11:30PM till i was stuffed and could not eat any more. You would be surprised how not hungry you are in the morning when you do this. The worst part of the whole thing was I had to be at the hospital right at lunch time and you could smell the foods in the hall!!!
I was no more sick with the anesthetic as i was when i have surgery first thing in the morning.

Cancel!  Seriously- I blame the late surgery time I had ( 4pm) for my DVT.  I was not back in my room until 8pm - they shifted me to my bed and I slept for another 12 hours WITHOUT MOVING !!!!!!!!

Morning surgery is normally walking by afternoon.   Don't ever have afternoon surgery. The night staff just let you sleep.

( I was allowed a cup of black tea mid morning )

Make sure when you arrive at the hospital that you make them aware of this.  They will monitor you  prior to andd during surgery and probably give you glucagon during surgery if needed.

My last surgery was at 530pm and i prefered it big time to my previous 4 that were in the morning.

They will know how to monitor you and look after you, i am sure they have had other patients with similar problems and it sure aint worth cancelling over.

Dont be freaked out just make sure that you keep them informed.

Don't Cancel...Take a deep breath a relax. I have been last on the list many-a-times!

I have had at least 5 of my 11 surgeries late in the day.  2 were Major surgeries (Fulkerson's) were LATE in the day and there was no ill effects (no DVT).

The late start will work out fine!

Hospitals and surgery centers do their best to accomodate everyones schedule as best they can.  However, they are often up against a lot of challenges.  The reality of the situation is that with surgery, sometimes you have to go later in the day.  I've had surgery as late as 5:30pm and although it was horrible having to wait that long, it turned out just fine.

Do not cancel over the surgery time.  Its not going to be as bad as you think.  Its natural to be really nervous.

for my surgery (just over 2 weeks ago) I was told to arrive at the surgery center at 12:45 but was not given a real start time. It turned out that my surgery was not scheduled until 3:15. Obviously not my first choice! It all worked out ok in the end- keeping yourself calm is the most important thing. (And they will accommodate your hypoglycemic needs I'm sure)

good luck.
