Patella pain improving but now worse back of knee pain
« on: June 18, 2010, 09:11:59 AM »
I am so frustrated here. I am pushing the PT and quad exercises - patella seems to be making healthy clicks and getting into place. No patella pain ( or not much) when walking ...knee a bit unstable but feel the PT will get it there. Some sore spots near meniscus but hoping they settle. But now the back of knee pain is worse again.  Sharp , stinging pain...  tight swollen feeling...  What do I do - heat or ice ? I am feeling so fed up with this.  Could it be ligament strain or is it def a bakers cyst? I can't feel a cyst but then I am not probing too hard either.  :(

Your hamstrings may be getting neglected.  The quads, hammies, glutes and hip muscles all need working to keep the knee strong.  Make sure you warm up a bit and streach everything, quads, hammies, calves, hips and the backside too.  It really does help. It may be something else too, if you are really concerned call your OS or GP.

I had a lateral release in my first knee op in 1998 - and the back of knee 'was' the first area of pain after a very fast Nordic Walk in March ( which triggered all this latest problem)

Maybe the hamstrings have been hurt. Is there a ligament / muscle that runs behind the knee and then can get strained ?  I don't  have an OS at the moment as I have to find a new one.  No physio in sight either .  Knee improved o/night with rest so suspect it may not be a Cyst ? Fingers crossed...all may be improving...   Lots of knee pain / arthritic stuff - good knee as well so have a matching pair now  ;D  But this may be good news..

Orthotics guy told me to wear orthotics constantly and also 'not' wear the shoes I had been wearing ( felt rigid but in fact had air pillows inside). Already in 2 days have felt the difference.

Today both knees have been about equally sore. I am quite excited. Does this mean I am winning ? Doing the PT. Reading the  book called "Stretching Anatomy".   Back of knee pain is better tonight - went past my medication hour ( 24 hour sustained release ) by 3 hours - hopeful?

Sort of tingly pain in both knees and both kneecaps....

You may have just over stressed the knee.  I also find that the hammies get very tight sometimes and working them too hard makes them hurt.  Glad to hear it seems to be feeling a bit better.

It is a bit more swollen today again.  Walking around seems to make it swell a fair bit and sometimes there is pain under knee cap when it bears weight. Sometimes there is a 'click' and then it feels better again.   Hoping that given time now it may recover a bit.  This is the 3rd month now.

Seems to me this has been going on for far too long! Why don't you go and see a doctor about it. You have had recurrent pain and swelling so there must be something internal. It might show up on an MRI I suppose.
