How long until it works?
« on: October 02, 2003, 02:57:49 PM »
Does anyone know how long it takes for a steroid injection to do its thing?  I had an injection into the knee on Monday afternoon and my knee is still sore, is there a usual time that these injections take to work or does this just mean that it hasn't worked for me?   :-/  Any info would be great.  Thanks.

Natalie.

Hello Natalie
I have never had a steroid injection, but I have heard many people comment about them. The general consensus is that they usually don't work right away. I've recently heard a story from a friend who waited almost a week before feeling the benefits of the shot. I personally wouldn't wait too much longer than that before calling my doctor and asking a few questions. I hope it works for you soon!

I had a steriod injection before my OS decided to do arthroscopy.  He told me that day that there might be an initial "flare up", but that if it was going to do what it needed to do, I would see a differnce withing 36-48 hours.

My injection did not work.  I saw no results, so I ended up with the arthroscopy.  I hope this helps.  I know it isn't much.

I've had them in my wrist and it took about 48-72 hours before I noticed any effect, it was quite slight and I wouldn't really say it was a success for me, I ended up having surgery on my wrist anyway and IMO, it made things worse after 3-4 goes.
