Hey Geekies,

A quick update on the first post-mfx physio.

Changing PT's had it's benefits... my new chappie, Andy, took a thorough history, checked out my knee swelling, strength, flexibility and PAIN!

Actually it was pretty gentle, he quickly realises that I'm not stranger to the standard post-op exercises, checked me doing them - tweaked my hip position during clams and recommended that my SLRs were lower and slower.

His assessments of my quads were that they were "pretty wasted really" ... there is no visible trace of my VMO and the quads aren't firing as they should because of the swelling over the top of the knee..

Verdict: more icing (I had been a bit remiss as icing makes it ache) and elevating (which I find tough when the house is dipping deeper into dishevellment by the day.... yes today I did "do" the bathroom,conservatory/music room and kitchen .... including washing the kitchen floor by squatting on my good leg and using paper towel and cleaning spray).
I think it is increasingly difficult for the family to understand the need to rest it.... I can see why ... it's three weeks this Wednesday and they've all moved on.

So I'm to continue protected weight bearing (I'm doing about 50/50 crutches/knee) , keep doing the SLRs/Quad sets/ankle pumps/heel slides and clams and return to PT in two weeks.

As an aside - if you are reading this and haven't visited kcknee at http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEtalk/index.php?topic=50639 please do - she's a brave lady having a tough time...

Cosmic sorry your having to try to do work around the house you really should not be doing to give your knee the best chance of a good result, I think I shall have to come down and give those nearly adult offspring of yours a swift kick on the butt to get them to realise you still need to be resting and icing the knee as often as possible, I know its hard for kids to see what needs to be done and its harder for you with Mr Cosmic working away from home, but please be careful not to do too much and spoil the surgeons good work.
Take care an be careful not to overdo things

Hi Cosmic,

I am pleased that you like your new PT as it is hard to find a decent one you can trust and took me a while to find Russ but he now just a PT for a Rugby Team and no longer has his own Practice. If I have future knee problems will have to look for a new PT and hope it does not happen for some time.

Tez is right your family should be looking after you rather then the other way round as you been told to take things easy for the new couple of weeks. Ice, ice, ice as you PT has suggested and put your feet up and get some of your family to do the housework!

Hi Vicky

09/09/09 is a day you will remember for the rest of your life and if you never had your knee injury your would never have joined KG bulletin board and made some new online friends and even met up with some in person.

I have been a KG member for nearly 8 years and love this website and made many online friends that I can have a chat to on Facebook.

Hi All,

Not going back to work till Tuesday as I am going to my brothers Stag Party in Amsterdam for this weekend with 12 others and should be a good laugh and fly out tomorrow afternoon and fly back on Sunday afternoon. We are going on a booze cruize on Saturday night so may drink too much and will dress up as The Beatles!

The big day is on October 22nd so not long now and really looking forward meeting up with family and friends.

Hi All,

Got back home yesterday and had a really good weekend and is something I will remember for a long time. I only slept a total of 5 hours over the weekend and made up for it last night by sleeping 11 hours and feel a lot better for it and booked today off work, that was a wise move.

Those of you that are my FB friends can take a look at some of the photo's taken and a video link of a guy doing Wheelies on a mobilty scooter in the streets of Amsterdam that is even more funny to watch after a slice of space cake that most of the lads tried. I do not normally take drugs! just a one off as it something special my brothers stag party and made the most of the weekend.

Sounds like you had a great weekend, Nick - I'm glad you had fun.

Cosmic, how are things going? Ready to chop your crutches into kindling yet? Hope all is going well and the knee is feeling considerably improved...

Just popping by the cafe to say there is a LONG overdue lunch meeting of the 3 cafe muskateers this coming Thursday for some chatter and desserts.  8)

It will be Vicks' first opportunity to meet the northward pointing stiff one. I shall be painting his nails a special hue to celebrate. I hope she won't touch it with such mortal horror as my best mate does when she visits..."Ugh, thats strange.....oooh let me just touch that bit again....you can't feel that? Goodness it is so hard!!". Yes its like a bad porn movie.  ::)

If they are very lucky I shall let them feel between my big toe and second toe, right at the first bit that juts upwards. now the swelling is down you can feel a hard lump. Must be a screw top. It correlates with X-ray images. When you push it hardish I get tingling all through the other side of the tip of the toe! No wonder I got RSD, my poor nerves are in turmoil!! Its like a B & Q project gone on in there...

Will post pics of the knees and toes afterwards....

Hugs all xxxx
