instability

hi everyone
Does anyone think it is possible for instability to make it  more likely to damage you calf muscle while doing pt excersises
I did something to my calf muscle 2 weeks ago while doing step ups at home it really freaked me out at the time but luckely I had an appointment with my p.t  next day and he checked me over and told me that I had probebly  torn or pulled the muscle, it was quite painfull for a few days then setteld into feeling a bit uncomfortable, then today doing the same pt excersise it flared up again and I wonderd if the fact that my knee is a bit unstable could that be causing the calf problem or am I just unlucky or unfit or something
I hope someone can help and give me a bit of advice

It's all connected...  I'm starting pt with a new guy this week and tight calf muscles are part of what he is working on with me.  So they could be related.
patella pain began early teens
'94 TTT/LR/VMO adv.
'94 MUA
'10 tried PT again
1/11 scope/hardware removal
4/11 (Finally!) dx medial instability due to LR
5/9/11 LPFL reconstruction scheduled

All your leg muscles are stiff as a result of the leg not being used normally. You are in defensive mode when you are not exercising so the muscles do tend to stiffen up much more than usual.

You need to do a lot of stretches and gentle warming up before starting on any of the knee related exercises. I was on the stationary bike for 15 minutes before any training exercises were started then I did lots of calf, quad and hamstring stretches before starting any of the knee specific stuff. It does not have to be mega just enough to get things moving again.

Thats possibly my problem I tend to do the excersise bike after I do all the other excersises my physio has given me so will try to use it first and see if that helps.
One other thing that is worrying me is this time the pain has moved from my calf up to behind my knee so could this be something other than the calf muscle problem or is this just the way it goes.
Sorry I am freaking out! I spend far to much time thinking and worrying about my knee
