Ankle swollen?
« on: March 22, 2010, 03:07:08 AM »
Hi, I injured my knee on Wednesday night, 4 days ago. I still cannot move it or bend it back to walk. I do not have insurance so I'm resting, icing, compressing and elevating it lol. And taking Celebrex for the swelling. I'm taking an x ray tommorow but I know I need an MRI, which I cannot afford. My question is, why is my ankle swelling, if my injury is in my knee? There's nothing wrong with my ankle.
Thanks in advance.
-Jeff

Sorry about your injury it suck to be in pain, I also have swelling in my ankle especially when I have been using  compresion round my knee my p.t says because the knee in compresed the swelling goes down towards your ankle. It really freaked me out at first as well cos I'm not a sweller even my knee did'nt swell that much after the initial injury.
I hope this helps a bit good luck with the x ray

Yep, swelling in your ankle even though your knee is the injured bit isn't uncommon. I had it when my knee flared up last year and even now the ankle sometimes looks a bit puffier than the other one. Keep doing the RICE stuff and hopefully things will improve. Swelling in the knee just tends to travel down the leg especially when you compress the knee.  Its crappy to be in pain, hope the X-ray at least indicates what might be wrong so you can get some idea on treatment.

good luck
