Any more claims to fame?
« on: September 26, 2003, 06:23:07 PM »
Hiya guys,

Reading about Helen's achievements on her post Check This Out got me wondering whether anymore members here had any claims to fame. I'm betting that we're a hugely talented bunch here and there are some great stories to be told, so don't be shy share your achievement and be proud of them. I'm sure fellow Kneegeeks will enjoy reading them and it's also a great inspiration to hear of successes amongst our group.

As most of you will already know my own debatable claim to fame (apart from singing on TV with my school choir as an 11 year old!) is my writing. Below are a couple of links to articles I've had success with of very different types. The first is a humorous tale about my crazy yard cat published online and in the glossy magazine version and the second is a critically acclaimed piece about technology in motor sport, both written last year.

Hope you enjoy them and I look forward to hearing of other claims to fame and achievements!  ;D

Love and hugs...Jo

Felix, my cat was in The Sun newspaper last year.
He rescued me after I fell in bathroom (thanks knees) and when I went to the hospital, there was a reginoal photographer from the sun there about something else and a dr told him about us and we got £250 for the story.

I guess I have done a few things that would count here... I modeled when I was little(from like 4-8 I think). I was in a calendar when I was 5 (Miss November, in a blue doctor's scrub material pilgrim dress)... I was in Elegant bride magazine a few times, An in-store billboard thing in Kohls(if yall dont have them they are kinda like a department store, but not in malls), tons ads for JC Penny, Macys, and all those places and a bunch of other things that I cant rememebr right now, but I have everything I did in a box in the basement... I wanna go dig it out now!

Ive been in the newspaper a few times seprate from modeling, once with my school when we filmed a commercial for Pikes nursery, I think my cheerleading squad was in the paper once when we made it to a county competition, once with my brother when we both won our avents at the county championships for swimming... and I dont remember what else.

I'd say thats the only "claim to fame" I may have!

Right Knee- 10-14-03- LR, TTO, Scope, Plica excision
4-20-04- Scope, screw removal, scar tissue clean up

Left knee- subluxing, maltracking & malaligned-not ready to start treatmet..

I've done a few interviews with newspapers for weather-related information ... the latest was with the Philadelphia Inquirer during Hurricane Isabel:

That's about all for me so far!  I'm no beauty queen like Emily ;).

I haven't really done anything spectacular, but I was in the newspaper numerous times for my gymnastics team.  I had several pics in there and 5 or 6 stories featuring me.  I went to junior nationals for level 9 (olympic level is level 10) and competed in a bunch of regional championships.  Hehehe...Gymnastics, that's what started all of my knee problems.

I was also in the paper a few times for my 4-H achievements.  Nothing great, but it was really neat for me at the time.

I don't think that I have done anything amazing. I was in the paper a few times for my knee. Yeah apparently being in the hospital for months and only being 14 is a accomplishment?! Nothing more I guess....Oh and my job. We get mentioned alot but only because we talk the calls....Jillian

Not me but my Grandad and his brother were friend with Sean Connery (James Bond) and his family in Edinburgh in the 30's. Sean applied to work with my Grandad's brother at the McEwans brewery in the 40's but was turned down so he had a milk round instead and polished coffins for a friend of my Great Grandmother.

Following on from Iona's story about Sean Connery, my uncle lived a couple of doors down from him and used to see him in the local pub 'The Diggers' quite often.  I also had a great, great, great (not sure how many greats) uncle who sailed on the ship on the Scott Expedition.  Haven't really done anything exciting myself though!

I haven't done much, but in high school I was in the paper a lot for basketball and soccer.  My junior year I was in the Daily Oklahoman for being #2 in the state in 3 point percentage and makes.  We went to the 5A state championship my Soph, Junior, and Senior year but sadly didn't win. :(  Almost played bball in college (Stephen F. Austin, Baylor, or Nebraska) but decided I liked my knees more than playing competitive bball, but if OSU or OU would have recruited me I would have probably played. Oh yeah and I was Homecoming Queen in high school...hehehe

I was on a local radio show when I was in high school, along with another fellow student, to talk about the up coming mock trial competition(s) that we were doing that year.  The funny thing is, that we were asked weather or not we wanted to be attorneys when we got older, and I think we both said no.  Now I am attorney.

The reasons David and I were choosen was that our coach thought we would be the most talkative, and we hardly spoke a word...hehehehehehe.

I am proud of some of my achievements...I won the Mactaquac triathlon when my knees were good, of course...I have an article being published in Fredericton's french journal in February (L'Info-lien) I was a CIAU Academic All-Canadian and AUAA all-star for Swimming for the UNB Varsity REDS and I sang at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival.  One though that is on a more serious note...and this was more of an effort on my I have paramedic training, though never became one, a man had an accident and I was doing a practicuum for John Howard Society and so I pulled over with my clients in the car, and no one knew what to do, so I checked him and he had no pulse, so I did CPR on him until the ambulance got there.  Unfortunately, he passed away.  The police called me and told me.  And oddly enough, I knew the man well.  I didn't notice at the time.  A letter was written to the president of my college commending me for my heroic efforts.  I still don't feel very heroic, and feel that anyone in my position would have done the same thing.
That's pretty much all for me.
You guys are all pretty impressive.  Keep up the great stuff!!  It's great to read all about you!!  Heather.

My claim to fame is that I once met a guy who had a stepbrother who knocked over a guy in his cab whilst driving through Manhattan.  Now the guy he knocked over was married to a woman from Brooklyn who used to live next door to a family who had a daughter and three sons.  Now the daughter got married to a fella who had just moved from from Idaho to New York who once had his Chevy repaired at a dealership not too far from where he worked in WestChester and the guy who repaired his Chevy was the spitting image of a bloke who used to play the bass guitar in a band from the late 1960's.  But I can't remember his name.  ;D

Hey !!

Has been in local paper and TV protesting about closing the orhestraclasses.
Ohh how ugly it sounded in TV ( I speak something called östgötska a ugly dialect of swedish).
My aunt was together with Peter Sellers and he asked to marry her.
My cousin is married with the one who produced ABBA.

How about that ?! Famous or not ? NO I would say.

The closest claim to fame that I have is being a distant cousin of Ray Stevens (The Streak, Everything is Beautiful, Ahab the Arab, etc.). Also if you want to count the fact that I worked once as an extra on the set of "In the Heat of The Night" where I got to see Caroll O'Connor, Alan Autry, Hugh O'Connor, Harold Rollins, Christine Elise and some of the other not-so-famous players. Very interesting to see a TV show in production. It was an experience I will never forget!!  ;D

hmmm...i played hs ball with newly minted nfl hall of famer steve young and was the sports editor of the hs paper and the sportsl reporter for the local i got to cover him in practice and in the paper..pretty cool...

back in my bar band days....we opened for the southern rock band the outlaws one nite..the scheduled opening act never showed as their van broke down..we had played this bar a few times during the week when no one was in there....i was drinking at the bar when the mgr asked me if we could set up sometime in the next was a goof...and the best part was hanging out backstage after their show with these legends of the southern rock boom of the late 70' granted this was 10 yrs later and the surviving bands of this era were playing bars for a few grand a nite...but it was cool to see them in such a small venue  ...if u love music and maybe the occasional adult beverage it was as good as it gets for civilians....

anyway that's bout it....good topic..

I actually have my "case" pubilshed in some sort of book...I don't know much about it, but when I was suffereing from panniculitis years ago my rheumatologist presented my case at the Mayo Clinic and some of the doctors decided that I should be involved in this medical research book (because of the rarity of what I have).

Aside from that, I've been published a few times, mostly for my sports writing but a few poems and short stories as well. I also have a few stories and writings to be published in an upcoming book about the history of the New Jersey Devils NHL franchise, I'm VERY excited about that!

Best wishes,
Patricia :)

Extra in the film "When Saturday Comes" (Among the crowd somewhere, can see me in parts cheering as my sister and her bf held me up :P)

Part of a group of kids who annoyed the people filming "The Full Monty" by running round screaming and running up to the fence when they were filming :p

Local newspaper for a dog show.

Various school activities.

Was one of a group of muggings that occured. Although mine was a completely seperate one. Everyone seem's to know me since that lol.

Used to be known for my early gymnastic abilities at school. Never actually did gymnastic training but everyone knew me for my famous handstand walk across a narrow beam that was 6ft in the air during PE. I got a bit too cocky though and fell off.

Also used to be known as both "The Juggler" when I played goalkeeper for a Cubs team. Got the name after one game where the ball was incredibly wet and it kept slipping out my hand. And also known as "Maradona/Pele the Second" for the amount of times I used my head when I was playing defence and when I was always sent up for corners because I was the tallest :P

Erm....think that's it.
