Swelling behind knee ?
« on: March 24, 2010, 07:09:35 PM »
I have (as most of you know) a torn ACL, Ruptured MCL and some Meniscus injuries. Yesterday my new PT noticed that I have some swelling behind my knee, although the swelling is very minimal on the sides and frontof my knee thanks to some Arthrotec. I was just wondering if the swelling behind my knee could be related to any of the injuries I sustained in my tiwsting incident or did I damage something else that went un-noticed ?

Look up "popliteal cyst" or "Baker's cyst", that could be what the swelling is.  It's fairly common after other knee injuries, as the extra fluid produced in the knee from the injury has to go somewhere, and a lot of times it's the back of the knee.  Hope that helps, at least it's an idea for you to look into.

I agree with Andi...look to the Baker's cyst.
April, 2005 - ACL rupture, medial meniscus tear within posterior horn to articular surface, abnormal signal within lateral meniscus, partial tear MCL, bone contusions tibia/fibula, Baker's cyst.
No repairs.

Hi Tony fancy meeting you here this is not normaly where we have our conversations but thought i'd jump in about the bakers cyst   from what I have read about them it is very common when there is meniscis damage. If I were you I would get it checked out cos you have enough going on with your knee without something else going wrong
Take care Tez

Hey Tez :p

I know this isn't normal eh ? I'm just getting ready to respond to your other message. I will ask my PT about this on tuesday. I'm sure that she'll take her best "gues-timate" as for what it is and then tell me to check with Dr. Ahmad when he gets back (around the end of april).

Thanks all for your response!
