Glad your psychologist is helping you out with all this.  It could be the Pilates physio is feeling a mite guilty?  If it was the fill in for their shop that caused all this, they may be getting defensive?  Besides it's always easy to blame the patient when things do not go as planned rather than to just say things are not working as planned.  Hard cases are frusterating for everyone involved I think.  Still should not be taken out on the patient.

Good luck, hope there is something that can be done for you.

Thanks, Milly. It means a lot.

I spoke with my physio today and I have fat pad impingement suggesting maltracking of the patella. At least I know wht it is now.

Will be interesting to see what my Sports Physician says on Thursday and knee surgeon says on Monday. Think it will be some sort of surgery since conservative treatment hasn't touched the pain.

Nick, can you shed any light ?

Hi Kirsty,

Before I had my surgery I was feeling pain and catching on the lateral side of my knee that was the fat pad catching and the medial plica was removed so cannot have been the plica causing the sharp pain and catching. My inflammed fat pad did show up on my MRI scan and my OS did not seem to be concerned about it even though it was the cause of my knee problem and was trimmed during my scope.

Glad you are seeing your psychologist and would not see the Pilates Physio again and glad you hung up on her as she not worth the hassle. My Hospital physio told me the knee pain was in my head and would not even let me see an OS without kicking up a fuss.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your input.

I have NEVER been in so much pain !!! It is just getting worse.

Saw a link on your website to Dr David Connell's study into alcohol ablation. He is now based in Melbourne next to the sports medicine clinic I go to. Will ask my sports physician and knee surgeon about it. I just can't handle the pain anymore.

My surgeon's rooms rang to say my OS has looked at MRI and was "fine". Really hate when they say that. No new changes apart from fat pad. So will discuss it with him on Monday.

Only 5 days to go till I see my surgeon. Bring it on !!!

Hi Everyone,

Feeling very drained by all the appointments I have been attending and just dealing with the intense pain in my right knee.

I saw my sports physician today and he has a different opinion of my right knee to my old physio. Very frustrating. He has suggested taking a step back and simplifying things as much as possible. Just thinks I need a bit of a break. Think he is right there. Apparently my MRI also shows bone edema. I think I will try some new things next year, but just feel burnt out by it all right now.

See my surgeon in 4 days. Who's counting ?

Hi Kirsty,

Sorry you are in a lot of pain still and not too long now till you see your OS again. Its great that you can turn to your sports physician before seeing your OS who has always been understanding and supportive through out your knee problems.

I am not back at work till Monday as I will be 33 tomorrow and will be going out tonight to my local cricket club and having a curry tomorrow evening with my family and friends. I had an early present today, my Boss was off work sick and has booked Monday off so will not see him till Tuesday!

I hope you had a great birthday !

Less than 24 hours till I see my surgeon, At least I will know by this tomorrow night. Just need a plan of action for treatment.

Been hard when different doctors think different things.

Just been to a fiend's hubby's 40th birthday party. It was fun !

Hi All,

Just seen my knee surgeon. It was a good appointment and at least I know where I stand now.

He wants me to continue with strengthening but suggests I do things I enjoy. My surgeon thinks that golf would be good for me as well as walking and cycling. Said not to bother with physio and to limit my appointments. He understands that it is hard and frustrating too.

My MRI looked quite good and no real changes. He thinks my quads are quite good.

He said there isn't a lot I can do about my arthritis and fat pad. Got crepitus too but is expected with my knee.

We talked about injections but said they don't work that well in my case.

I don't have to go back at this stage.

Will be if it doesn't change.

Hi Kirsty,

Glad your appointment with your OS went well and my OS also said he cannot do much with the fat pad but he did have to trim it so must have been a problem. Cannot do much about arthritis as your cannot prevent it from getting worse. Golf involves a lot of walking and may just want to play 9 holes to start of with and see how it goes from there.

Hi -- I know it's been a while since you've been here, but I was wondering how your recovery is... my friend is considering hte same surgery. Is it worth it? Has the dislocation stopped? Are you in a lot of pain still?

Any advice would be helpful!
Thanks.

My results from the trochleoplasty have been great.

Although a painful operation I would definitely recommend this operation if you are the right candidate.
