Hi All,

Not been feeling very good the last few days. Had another migraine for a few days. Starting to get rid of the infection too, which has been making me feel terrible.

I have been feeling pretty down about my knee and not being able to do much. Know that it is for the best, but slower than I thought it would be.

Started walking more without my crutch. For longer distances I still need it.

I am enjoying my new iphone, which I got yesterday. So much easier to use than a normal mobile phone. Took a while to get used to it.

Going to try and go to the hydro pool some time over the weekend. Once I use it more I think I will start feeling a bit better.

Isn't is funny how you feel so much worse before you get better with and infection.  I am sorry the knee is taking a bit longer than expected to heal up.  I am not very patient myself, so I can understand the frusteration.  Hope you have a good weeked and can get to the pool.

Hi Kirsty,

Sorry you have not been feeling too good the last fews days and hope you are over the worst of the infection and migraine. There nothing wrong in using a crutch still for walking longer distances its best to use it until your knee feels right again.

I am glad you are enjoying using your iphone, its a lot better then a normal phone and thinking of having a blackberry phone in July when my mobile phone contract runs out. I can get a deal for 20 a month with unlimited internet and 300 texts and 300 minutes with a blackberry phone.

Hi All,

Sorry to have been MIA for a few days. Just been going through a rough patch with my meds and my parents. I just seem to do nothing right.

My knee seemed to be improving, but still need to ensure I don't do too much.

Really enjoying using my iphone. It has been a god send while I am waiting for my home phone and internet to be connected.

Got to the hydro pool on Friday night, which felt good. Although, I was quite sore afterwards. So, used my Cryo Cuff when I got home. Will try to go a couple of times this week.

Will update again soon.

Hi All,

Last night I had the worst night's sleep as I was in so much pain.

I think it is because I have reduced my meds due to my parent's concerns. It really sucks !!! I am so sick of them interfering.

This morning I had to get up early as the guy was coming to connect the phone. So, I now have a home phone and internet connected finally. Yay !!!

Yesterday afternoon I was in a lot of pain. By the time I got home from going out with a friend for dinner I was in soooo much pain. Used my cryo cuff for a while before going to sleep, which really helped.

Today I am just going to rest up and catch up on some sleep.

Nick, glad you are seeing Mr Green soon. Just hope you see him and not his registrar.

Too bad about your parents.  I think they probably mean well, but...  Glad the internet is hooked up for you.  I hope you can get some better sleep tonight.

Hi Milly,

I know my parents mean well, but it is currently really hard. They won't let go and just so protective of me. It makes it really difficult. Just feel like they don't trust me with anything.

Am waiting for them to go and talk to my psychologist as things are just getting too difficult.

Last night was the worst night's sleep in ages because of my knee and back pain. Hope to sleep better tonight. Think I will as I went to the hydro pool tonight and generally sleep better.

Today I saw a careers counsellor and really helped. Now have a much clearer direction of where I want to go. Am planning to apply for graduate medicine. Will sit the aptitude test in March next year.

Hi Kirsty, so sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well and that things have been a bit stressful.  You need to be looking after yourself physically and mentally and not stressing about your parents, regardless of whether they are trying to help you or not.

With regards to meds my OS keeps badgering me to take as many as possible so that I can pus myself further (in terms of ROM anyway) and get better quicker, is there any reason that your parents are so against you taking them?  I feel like i've taken millions of tablets since my op 5 weeks ago but in the grand scheme of things, taking meds for a few months really isn't going to do any harm.

You sound like you're really on the road to recovery, I wish i could walk on my leg let alone without crutches, and swimming...wow!  I'm being given a support bandage because my quads are so weak and Ive stopped putting weight on my bad leg for fear of more collapses.  It's so hard to be brave.  I bought an e-stim though which I'm hoping will help loads as the exercises alone just dont seem to be enough  :(  I wish I could sneak a peek in to the future to reassure myself that I will walk again!!

Graduate medicine sounds great, well done you.  Well, I hope you are feeling better today (or your tomorrow)!

Sometimes being tired enough can help with the sleep.  Having them have a chat with the psychologist sounds like a good idea.  Sometimes it takes a third party to point something out.

Graduate medicine sounds great!  Lots of work though.  Having a direction helps you make better career decisions.

Hi Kirsty,

Sorry that you are in a lot of pain and could not get much sleep and hope you can sleep better during the next few nights. Do not reduce the pain meds even if you parents think it too much its your body and if you are in pain then you need to take more pain meds to ease the pain. Keep on using the cryo cuff if it helps you.

Great that you are now connected again onto the world wide web and as milly pointed out your parents are only concerned and are known to worry about their kids, my mum thinks I doing too much and not resting my knee enough and suppose she is right in a way.

I saw my physio this afternoon and he sent a text message to Mr Green if I could see him on the 30th and within 2 minutes got a reply back saying he would be happy to see me on the 30th so finger crossed I get to see Mr Green.

Hi KG friends,

I had a much better night's sleep last night, which was great. Really needed it. Still waiting for my doctor to ring back. Hopefully he will today before he goes on holidays. The receptionists of the clinic he works at are useless. Going to speak with him about it.

Annie, you are so right about my parents. Just going to do what is right for me. They have really no understanding of what I have been going through and have severe my pain has been. My psychologist has suggested they go and talk to her. She said they really need to back off as it is causing me a lot of stress and contributing a lot to my anxiety. My doctor isn't too concerned about the amount of meds I am taking. We know that it is only temporary. They are being extremely conservative with me. Not able to do much yet. My OS doesn't even want me pushing my ROM, but it has come back quickly naturally. I am not allowed to swim yet, just go to the hydrotherapy pool to move around a bit and get my ROM better. I think the conservative approach is best. The bone needs time to heal before you can load it up.

Milly, you are right about sleep. I didn't take much to go to sleep last night, which was good. Going to the hydrotherapy pool really helped I think. Am excited about the prospect of studying Medicine. Just need to get through the first hurdle of sitting GAMSAT. Been researching universities and have already ruled some out.

Nick, glad Mr Green is going to see you on the 30th of March. Hopefully he can work out what is going on and provide you with the right advice. The registrar didn't do a very good job with follow up including physiotherapy advice. The follow up is just as important as the surgery itself. No point if the right rehab is not done and at the right pace. Decided not to reduce my meds because of my parents. I have to live with the pain, not them. So glad to have the internet connected again. Felt very lost without it.

Hi All,

Got my haircut and coloured today, which was good. Feel a lot better after getting my hair cut.

Still in a lot of pain with my back. Will have to take my super strong painkillers tonight. Pretty annoyed as my doctor never called back. I doubt whether he got my messages. He is now away for a week, which sucks. The receptionists of the clinic I go to have been ok, except for two rude ones. I will be reporting them and telling my doctor how unhappy about it I am. It is not satisfactory as I am concerned. There is no excuse for rudeness and will never find a solution to things.

Tonight I went out for dinner with some friends, which was nice. We went to an Italian restaurant followed by coffee and cake at a great Italian cafe.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Glad you could get some better sleep.  It does help so very much doesn't it?  As for the pain meds, only you know how much pain you are in.  I have found out personally that if you are in too much pain you cannot progress very well.  I am not so stubborn now.  It probably felt good to have a change in hairstyle.  That can perk you up.  Not too many plans this weekend, just maybe a movie and some shopping with my daughter.

Hi All,

Had another really bad night's sleep. Woke up so many times. Ended up using my cryo cuff a few times, which did help. My back has been horrendous too.

I am so mad how the clinic treated me this week. Especially those 2 rude girls. I have decided to right a letter to the receptionist supervisor. It is not acceptable and will not tolerate it. There needs to be a better way of messages getting to my doctor and I do not always want to discuss what is wrong the receptionists as it is none of their business. Have been really upset about it. I rang this morning to get the name of the receptionist supervisor. So, will be writing a letter of the weekend and emailing it to her.

Going to a movie tonight with friends, which will be great. Looking forward to it.

I am going to go back to sleep for an hour and then get up. Will then do some study.

Milly, it makes a difference when you get some sleep. Totally agree with you about pain. I am so tired of being in so much pain. I have got a few ideas to discuss with my doctor when I see him next, including seeing the specialist anaesthetist at the clinic that specialises in accupuncture. I think it would be worth giving it a try. Hope you have a nice weekend.
