AVN (osteonecrosis) of knee
« on: February 17, 2010, 04:41:58 PM »
Is there a section on these boards for people with AVN of the knees?  My daughter has had AVN in both hips, and both knees, a results of steroid treatments for an auto-immune disease.  The hips are doing well after core decompression, but her knees, not so much.  She has had core decompressions in both lower femurs, and upper tibias.  The pain is back, and she is scheduled for more surgery in April.  She also has osteonecrosis in both knees too.  Just looking for more information.  Thanks!

PS she just turned 18 years old this week.
10/07 Double Hip surgery, core decompression, screws&plates placed
12/07 Double knee core decompression femur, AVN
05/09 Double knee core decompression tibia, AVN
11/09 Diagnosed arthritis in both knees
01/10 steroid injections to both knees, no improvement

I know it's been over a year since you posted but I was wondering how your daughter is doing. I had AVN of both knees due to steroid use and had them both replaced.

this is the only page I have found for AVN.  I have AVN in my left knee.  My case might be too far gone for decompression but their might be hope for stem cells.
