Blushing Black Squirrels.  We don't have any of them here, but our brown squirrels don't tend to blush either.  I wonder if their carcass keeps its rouge appearance after the squirrel is dead on the road...??

Ah the Arthrosurface Hemi Cap...would I do it again? Good question, I never would of thought how my life was going to change in those 35 seconds on February 6th 2007. I went from a very sports active middle age guy to no sports what so ever. I t was a hard pill to swallow for me, more out of my own shallow wants. I would be lying if I said I didn't miss sports god how I miss them. When this all happen I was like cool I will get to see opening day 2007 of the Cubs, scope out the knee and be back to work no later then June. Wow was i wrong I was not even close. In a month and a half I will be watching my third straight Cubs season opener. I don't blame the procedure on this lengthy recovery I blame my work who is self insured for workers comp. I think if they would of done what my doctor wanted to do in February instead of waiting to December I would of been fine. The Hemi Cap put an end to most daily pain, I can walk with little discomfort for almost any period of time. Just the simple things that will drive you nuts. Playing a game on the floor with your kid and trying to get up. Squatting down to tie your shoe and then getting up from that position. Now trying to find a job that will suite my families needs in an economy that well that just sucks.
What I would say to people looking into this surgery is that it will take away your pain. But if you are looking at something to get your life back I would look at all your options first.

Hi Rotten:

This economy is on E-empty. Sure is a sad, sad thing, isn't it? My hubby is out today looking for a new trucking job. Ever since the merger of Roadway with Yellow freight, things just look pitfully awful. He's been on lay-off since early November and they are calling him back for possibly one week only at the end of Feb. March 1st will be the day that everybody learns the big secret. You either have a job or you don't...that's it!

Well, considering what I started with, I like my shiny new parts already.  ;D The bone on bone pain is officially gone behind the old kneecap. Guess everything else will tell in due time...still quite a bit of surgical pains (especially that dag nabbed tibia). Grrr! So, PFJR versus patellectomy for a pain cure. I'll take the plastic and metal any ole day.  ;)

Any new projects lately? Hope to be back to PT soon myself. Take care and have a good day!!!

Slushy!  ;D

I was elected to my church council and my first meeting is tonight. I have been keeping myself busy by applying for jobs. I have to apply to at least 20 a week to conform to WC rules. Three of them have to be a personal contact so its not that hard. Its just a lot of filling out apps on line for the most part. When I call these places they all pretty much say the same thing sorry were on a freeze right now check back in a few months. I also have a computer class four days a week a couple hours a day. I figured it could pad a resume a bit.

Congratulations on your election. Looking for a job is a job in itself! LAst year, when I was looking, I hated sending out resumes for jobs I saw advertized online, in the newspaper, and 99% of the time, I wouldn't even get a letter saying that my application/letter whatever was received. Very frustrating. I was on my own, though. No unemployment. I had quit my job working for Peapod (personal shopping=required a lot of walking, schlepping, and carrying and I knew I didn't want to do it anymore) in Oct. 07 when I was about to have knee surgery and 2.5 months later, found out I needed knee surgery again, in February. I gave myself 2-3 weeks to relax and then looked again, which is when I ended up at Macy's.

Survived the first council meeting, I guess I will go to next months now. Every council member has to chair a ministry at church since I already do there will be do added stuff for me. I tried to be to stay under the radar at the meeting figure since it was my first one and all. That lasted about ten minutes. I had the right to remain silent I just didn't have the capability. Every council or board needs a rebel in mine I it. How funny!!

hey rotten, i had the hemicap put in in feb 06 and i love mine. sorry that i have not read  your entire thread but could you give me the short version of why you do not like yours? you are the first person i have met that has had this thing besides me. the recovery from the hemicap was the easiest one yet (although it was the most painful surgery i have had too). just curious about why you dislike yours. i have got to see my OS soon about an allograft to fix a worn out mfx. too bad they cant put 2 hemicaps in one chondyle,(i already asked,he said no). I dread having this next surgery worse than i can explain.
hope you find ajob soon, good luck

Talk about raising the dead at least as far as post go.

First of all to all of you that either followed my brother in laws fight with cancer or helped with his BCBS battle thanks.
Karl died August 10th when brain cancer finally took his life...miss you bro.

two months shy of my Arthro surface hemi-cap's birthday I found out that I need a total knee replacement. The Hemi-Cap didn't fail, everything around it has. I am bone on bone on the medial side of my knee and for all of you that are bone on bone you know how I feel. I started getting severe pain about four months ago was hoping it was just the weather. So some time around January I will be joining the TKR club.

For those that remember some of my battles with workers comp I have some news there. My case worker B.H. is now serving 5 years in prison for a whole host of bad doings while she was the case worker for my work. for more info google Operation Cookie Jar. Since her indictment things have gone a little smoother. We were just about ready to settle when my knee started acting up so that is now on the back burner.

for now hoping all pain free knees

Hi Rotten,

It's good to hear from you.   I haven't been back on this site for a while myself.  I had the trochear groove resurfaced in July of 2009.  At the moment the knee cap is catching on the metal plate and needs to have some smoothing out done on it.  I don't mind having that done, but it won't fix the problem with the scar tissue or tear or whatever it is above the knee, so I'm holding out ntil that gets addressed.  Three years of not being able to bend this knee under load is a pain in the toucas.

So, sorry to about your brother in law.  That's a tough battle to fight.

Make sure you keep us posted on the TKR.  Hopefully that will get you some improvement.  Sounds like your W/C case manager got what she had coming to her.  She certainly did her best to give you fits.  With any luck the new person won't take that same path.

Keep us posted.

Hey Rotten...so sorry to hear about your brother!  He was one tough guy with all he went through.  I lost my mom late last year...she was 90 but that doesn't make it any better.  We are all thankful that she still had her mind till very near the end.  I miss her every day.  I hope she knows that I finally got a doctor to listen to me and I had a TKR July 15!  Good luck with yours...it is a very tough recovery.  I am still in PT but things are getting better every week...bit by bit!  I can really feel the progress when I go in the pool.  When I first went back in, it felt terrible!  The water tends to magnify everything that you have to recover from.  It's weird.  Now, I feel some pressure when I am in the water, but the knee feels so much more stable and it doesn't hurt in there....so I know it is still getting better.  I felt I had to learn to walk all over again.  That is still getting better too.  Keep the strength in that quad as much as you can.  I spent so much time working around pain that my quad was very weak after the replacement.  I am still working like crazy to build that up!  It is SLOW (for me)....so if you can stand to use the leg, use it as much as possible before the surgery!  I avoided stairs for so long that my leg has forgotten how to do them!

Take care...

Francine

Stairs never met one I ever liked since 2005.

So..  Last week.. I fell splat right on my TKR... Can you say  iffin ouch..  ???   What ever you do .. .. Even if you have to flip and land on your side. do not land on the knee.. Second time I have done so.. and it isnt pretty...  Imagine getting wacked with a cast iron frying pan.. Scream.. howll .. Ouch..  reminds me of post surgery days but worse..

Anyways .. I see the OS this week for OA injectsion on my left  knee and he is going to look at the four inch black and blue .. swollen TKR. right knee..      ..

Things they never mention to you unless it happens...

And I caught my toe on my flannel jammie bottoms and went down on the knee like a pro wrestler would have slammed on their knee on someones face..    I would think that would be less painful than doing a hammer slam with the knee on the medial side of soft tissue..

Now I can not feel most of my medial line ..spacer area.. but ..  NO pain is a good thing..   Can you say residual nerve damage post TKR..  ???  And I thought I got that feeling back.  Boy was I wrong.. .. Imagine if I did have more feeling in the knee..

Keep Up the good rehab in the pool.  It is wonderful therapy.
