Does this sound like a partial ACL tear?
« on: October 19, 2009, 03:40:49 AM »
I've had a dull, annoying knee pain in my left knee for a little less than a year now, and recently (around 2 months) I've been experiencing instability when pivoting on the leg. Just over a week ago I had a physical done and the PA mentioned that the knee did feel notably loose when he did a brief physical examination on it.
A few days later I saw an orthopedic specialist, another PA, whereupon she did a more thorough physical examination. She also noted looseness when juxtaposed to my right knee. They performed an x-ray and ruled out any major hard-tissue complications. An MRI was scheduled and was performed yesterday afternoon.
I will not get the results back for a few days but I'm just curious as to what those on here with insight think about my situation. This isn't anything debilitating, but for lack of a better phrase, I can't pivot on that leg to save my life (e.g. I once pivoted on that leg when the phone rang as I walked away from it, and had to catch myself on the wall a few weeks ago).
Also, even more recently (about 2 weeks), I've been feeling a sharp clicking and popping in that knee, which leads me to think that meniscus tears could be present as a result of my knee being so loose.
Another noteworthy mention is when I cross my left leg over my right leg and vice-versa. I notice that my shin moves significantly more forward (and is slightly painful) in my left leg when I cross it over my right, than my right shin when I cross my right leg over the left .
Does this sound like a possible partial ACL tear to you? Possible tears of the meniscus? Is a partial ACL tear likely to show up on an MRI? What about the meniscus tears?

Any input is appreciated.
Thank you!

Those tears should show up on the MRI scan so once you get your results everything should be confirmed.

Does sound like a possible tear, but I am not an expert.

I had a partial tear and got rid of most of the looseness by physio and building muscles up.

I had much the same symptosms and the mri didn't show anything wrong.  When I had the scope it showed a partial tear in the acl.
