Murph- I agree with the post that you should read up in the Arthrofibrosis section. I learned more there than anywhere else on how to deal with scar tissue problems. There is a PT tutorial too and I did everything on there after my ACI and lysis of adhesions. It is a great rehab program and there are even pictures of how to do things! I have been battling scar tissue problems for almost 3 years now and like I said no one has better information on it than kneegeeks! ;) Good luck tomorrow and get back on Welker's CPM asap! Hehe!

Fortunately for us...none of us have to use the same cpm protocol as Welker.  When they dropped mine off they told me not to whine about 6-8 hrs/day.  Welker was to be on it 23hrs/day (only for a week though)!

May ROM went ka-pluey after 5 weeks...was stuck at 90...now I too am going in for scar tissue removal on 4/2.  So I guess despite our best efforts sometimes its unavoidable.

I too was/am pretty discouraged.  I am only using the cpm a few hours a day to just keep it loose and maintain what ROM I get and now focusing on working my quads to get back some muscle.  I am now walking pretty good with crutches...and may even be close to off of them by the time I go back in...so yes big disappointment that I will be back relying on them for a few more weeks.

By the time all is said and done I will have been out of work for 10wks...never thought I'd actually say I miss the office :)

I hear ya.  I have been out of work since 1/6 and this was my 5th surgery.  Who is your dr.?  When the guy dropped off my cpm, he told me Welker was the last to use it, and he said that he used it about 20 hrs a day, and that he also tore his rotator cuff?  I was using it for awhile, then sent it back.  I was stuck at 70 degrees.  PT and CPM had no effect on it, so they said not to waste the copays and stop PT and send back the cpm...

So, yesterday went well.  He took out the 2 screws from last Jan's tto, and he took out some scar tissue.  He says my ACI graft from this Jan. looks great!  It is still a little bit soft, but healing great!  That's about it for now!   I start PT again tomorrow, and go back to him in 2 weeks!

Hey Murph..

My surgery was on 2/3....just past 7 wks now and still out of work myself.  12 books, 200 songs downloaded on my ipod and still another (estimated) 3 wks before I go back.  It's a good thing I have 2 seasons of LOST to catch up on (only started watching at season 4)....32 more episodes to go!!!

Gomoll was my surgeon.  The day the screws go away is definitely a good day..unfortunately this is now my second set.  Although I too stopped PT, I kept the cpm to help keep my knee from getting too stiff.  I only use it a couple hrs a day though.

How is your knee feeling now that they took out the scar tissue?  Did they leave a drain in your knee?  Although I don't have good ROM, I am getting more mobile and not looking forward to dealing with more swelling again.

How have you been feeling since the ACI? I can't wait to get back to work.  I don't really know how I feel since the scar tissue has been removed.  My PT was happy with what he saw today!  I'm glad the screws are gone!  One less thing to worry about.  Are you going in to have the scar tissue removed or are they waiting?  No, preop he told me he was going to, but he said once he got in there, he didnt need to put the drain in!

Since I've been doing SLRs and other small stuff for my quads, any pain I felt since the surgery is almost completely gone.  It's hard to tell how anything else is though as my ROM is still not enough to allow me to walk normally.

This Friday is the day Gomoll will take out the scar tissue so with any luck I will be able to get the swelling down quickly and start working on my ROM again.  'Til then I just keep working my quads and try to stay sane!

Good luck to everyone who has had scar tissue removed recently!  Remember that though we are a minority, we are a sizable minority as around 35% of those with patellofemoral grafts have it.

May your knees never swell up and always be cool! ;)

Thanks! I hope this is it!  I'm very confident with in Dr. Gomoll, so I finally have a good feeling!  Going to use my CPM, go to therapy, and do whatever they say to get my knee back!

I haven't updated in awhile, so I figured it was time.  After the LOA my ROM didn't really improve much.  PT is able to get about 95.  I get about 80 degrees.  Well, 2 weeks ago I fell.  :-[  I was wearing my brace, so I kind of jammed my knee on the way down.  That night it swelled, and I developed a popping/clicking noise and feeling.  I called the Dr. Monday morning and they got me in Tuesday.  He ordered an MRI.  Last night he got the results, and it didn't show much.  So, he is going to do a scope, to see if he can salvage the scar tissue or if we need to start over.   :'(  It looks like I am going in next friday so we'll see what happens.  I hope its ok.
