TKR I'm off to see the Wizard!! 2009 -2015 6 yr Birthday
« on: September 14, 2009, 01:47:05 AM »
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid across the finish line sideways, worn out, used up, leaking oil and shouting, 'GERONIMO!'
Happy 6th Anniversary to me and Scar-lot- O'Terror
[/size]

One year later
Hey ya'll
This is my journey through the my tkr experience.
If you read this string -it is long-you will not only learn about the ups and downs of a tkr but also experience the wonderful support you can find on this board. For me, community life was what got me through many hard times, and allowed me to express my joy through the good times. While those at home --listened helped and supported me--my friends on the board--hobbling down the road at the same time--knew more intimately what I was laughing, crying, or whining about 8) Hopefully, you will glean some nugget here that helps you--as you walk in my shoes.

6yr update 2015
Well the news was not so encouraging at the Dr checkup today. Short and sweet the spacers need replacing.
I knew before I went. The last two year has been a downward trend. More soreness and increasing laterally movement. I have chosen to curtail a lot of my activities. Gym work has dropped significantly. I find I am in the easy chair more often.
I have been given one honking big brace for now. With the option for surgery. Evidently, it can get worse.
I will be doing my research, before that option is taken, seriously considering my pain levels and lifestyle changes also.
The Dr has indicated he might have to make the incision longer. He will definitely be cutting muscle and rehab will be the same. Surely the pain level will not. I forgot to ask that question.
The worry factor (lets not sub-come to fear)has kicked in hard and heavy. Will I lose my flex-ion and extension? Will this happen again?
But most important --will I be able to snorkel in the spring? ;D ;) 8) :-[ :-* ;) >:( :'( ;D ;D
To cut or not to cut is now the question to be answered.  :-\
Advice?

3 years later 2012 --still in the game-----finnnnallllly got the bend to do spin-whoot whoot!!!!!!-Sometimes, I still fall back on icing, lidocaine, and just sitting down, but I still say--- Never, give up--it only can get better-=work with what cha got==happiness comes from whats in your heart========knees knees ankles toes--will often bring you woes.   I hold dear in my heart the friends I made here and the joy and wisdom they give me in a challanging episode of my life. I still turn to KG for education and encouragement. Thanks KG for giving me the opportunity of being a part of this community.

Sept 2009  Now begins the fun!!!!
Thanks so much for all the encouragement-education-reassurance-and best of all
Letting me be a part of your lives!!
So tomorrow-I see the Great OS behind the curtain.

And so he's done his magic and here I sit with my little pump to pump and being waited on hand and foot. So far this new knee business has been A-ok, I must admit I am afraid to move more than half an inch and I sound so happy because of that little button..
Surgery went well. I was only in for an hr. He had to shave off very little bone--and no long stem used.
There were prob more things--but who can remember yesterday.
So itd 8AM and I,ve done breakfast 2h on the cmm and waiting for the PT people. My day looks long.I can see lots of naps in my future
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
all that worrying for nothing.
Thanks to the voices of encouragement.!!!
All you guys and girls watching and waiting. Yesterday after surgery was a breeze. Gust are in thr forecast for today.
Rhia I donr remember--? you havent had tkr --right? When I am not so scattered brain I will prob remmember
JJJ I have watched you jump in the frey
and D  thanks thanks  are you rhe lady from Atlanta?

Hi DebbieO, Rhiannon here--

Sounds like all is going well for you thus far!  FANTASTIC!

And yes, you're remembering correctly, I have not (yet) had TKR.

Please keep us posted on you're doing.  It must be such a relief to have the surgery over with, yes?

Take care,

Rhiannon

 ;D  ;D  ;D
Ta-daaa!
So now I am a card carring memeber of the TKR club.
Wheew, lot of work to catch up with you guys!!
Today I set in my own bed back at home.
Had surgery on Monday and was sent home Wednesay with smiles ;D ;D ;D ;D Hardly any pain--took the pump away Tuesday midmorning with my blessings.
A day early home-because I was doing so well.
Can I brag-here????
Today I had in home PT first time and
TaaaDaaaa
extension 0 yes you read right extension 0
flex 100 and prob could do more except for those darn staples digging in!
Now I am a true believer in pre-op exercise and will spread that word.
The in home PT and I agreed today even though approved for 20 home visits I will probably only do one week and then on to outpatient.
Do you have any pros and cons about that thought? Seems like a good idea to me.
So once again Kneeguru's your part of the reason I am here today-feelin good-doin-good-and of course lookin good!! (just look at my pic--you would never ever believe I'm 58 )
Thanks so much for the messages when I got home and look to see whats happing in Knee land it really neat to know you cared
