Milly,

Labeling is good, During my surgery 2 years ago by mom and aunts were doing all the laundy and my boys who are only 2 years apart in some cases wear similar sizes so you can imagine the confusion.  They were wearing each others shirts and puttting on each others underwear (EWWW :P

I know when I'm getting close to surgery I seem to get in this state where i have to keep myself busy or i think about it too much (I tell my husband my mind is a bad place to live right now)

Take care and tell me about that wedge pillow, are you buying it from a medical supply store?  how many $$$$?

Annette,

Swapping shirts ain't so bad, but not the undies!  YIKES!  Thankfully I have one of each and they would NEVER wear each others things. So I label the "sorting baskets" in the basement. "Whites here" "Jeans here"  that kind of thing.  If anyone is not sure bring it to me and I'll tell you what basket it goes in.  Then they have instructions for each basket, whites for example would also be marked,"hot wash, bleach, cold rinse, dry regular temp".  I don't want any more color change shirts or shrunken stuff.

The place I am going to is medical supply and from their website it's like $25ish.  Better than the $65 and up on Amazon.  Plus I get a discount because of my ins.  Also talked to hubby about the shower.  He thought we could get the little "attachment" that goes on the faucet of the tub.  I used to have one when the kids were little then used it to bathe the dogs, then it broke.  It has a rubber end you put on the faucet, a tube and then a mini shower head.  I told him as long as I can get clean with out having to stand for a shower, I'm good.  I don't mind cheap as long as it works and is easy to use.

Hey Milly!
I posted back to ya on my thread. We do need to chat one-to-one, huh. What are your work hours right now? Hmm...I just noticed this. Your surgery is on Aug. 5th and I had another post-op appt set for the 4th. Just got a letter yesterday in saying Dr. S would be unavailable so, I have to reschedule. Wonder what that's about? Odd. I love Dr. S though. He's quite a character, isn't he? And, most importantly, he knows his stuff inside and out! I trust him 100%!! So...when righty is at the crucial time for "whatever" I won't be soooo scared! ;D As you're facing both knees, I hope you get the same relaxed feeling after the first one's done, too.

You have that laundry business set up right to a tee! Very organized and hope it works well for them. Now, it's when the daughter gets your things when you're away that bugs me because it all gets lost in girl world in her room. She had my swimsuit and said it was in her drawer after getting washed. ??? They're ok in washing stuff but, it's where it goes from there that gets puzzling around here. Swapping underwear, ick! :-X

VERY glad your work is flexible and you'll have a ride to/from. Just hope your pain doesn't affect that part of it. Maybe yours will settle sooner than mine did. That would be wonderful! I was really fatigued and didn't sleep well (still don't quite often but, that's nothing new) so, the ability to function mentally just was not possible + pain meds every 4 hrs made things very foggy. Had to rest quite a bit throughout the day, too. It's that early post-op crappy feeling that hung on for a long while. Know what I mean? How far do you have to walk?

Awww thanks! Yes, my lil girl is a waddling bundle of fun! She gets tired really fast but, she can still jump. The heat seems to get to her, too. She'll actually be due when you go for your surgery, lol. Can't wait to see them...they are SOOO cute when they're that little. Baby ewoks, ever seen star wars "Return of the Jedi?" Is Booda a big dog? They know when we're not well and feeling bad. Roxy guards me like a mother hen but, was only 4 months old when I was injured. Won't let anybody near me, including Theodore. Talk about hard-headed lol. She's not like that with anyone else. Funny, huh. She'll make a great mommy!

Hope you're having a nice weekend and most definitely, the pillow will come in handy. Bringing it to the hospital with you? Psst! Their pillows are like cardboard! Hey! How long do you get to keep your CPM? TTYL...

Heather - I work 8-5 with an hour for lunch.  The pain meds can make me foggy too, even now.  I just plug along the best I can.  That's where the hardware comes in nicely, as it does not take much brain power to watch windows updates go by.  Thankfully my daughter and I have quite different tastes so my stuff does not end up in her room.  Now if we can keep the kitty from stealing all the pony tail elastics, then we would be set.

Our Booda is about 115 or so.   A right big boy alright.  He tries to be gentle, but his size makes him dangerous sometimes.  He also has a bad habbit of trying to walk inside the crutches so he can lean on my leg.  So I visit from the other side of the fence when using the sticks.  Poor baby doesn't undersatand why though.

If I park in the usual spot for work, it's about a block and a half or so.  I did have Dr. S's nurse send the form for a temp handicap parking permit.  That way it's not very far at all.  I am right in side the first office suite, but have a couple of stairs to take down to my office.  I can take a flat route to the bathroom, but it means a few more doors.  It will be interesting going back, but I'll get through.  I did the last time too.

Well kiddies want the big PC, so will chat later.

Annette,

I kind of resisted at first, but I know how far I limp from my car to work now.  So I just broke down and asked.  No sense getting worn out before I even hit the building.

Well all - did the pre-op over the phone.  Getting a bit more nervous now.  Lots of stuff to finish before I go in.  We are thinking of going down the night before, even though I don't need to go to the hospital until 12:15pm.  I think my hubby just wants a chance to drive around and get the lay of the land so he knows where to go surgery day.

Hi Milly! Glad you are all done --that's a big relief. You are up next!! Sue is today--hopefully she'll be able to post soon. She's the outpatient gal; actually she should be all done by now I think.
Yeah your hubby probably just wants to know where all the good eating joints are ahead of time!!! How far is the drive to the hospital? So how long are they telling you you will have to stay?
I am still trying to get the pre-op clearance stuff done. Heart monitor comes off in 20 mins, then echocardiagram tomorrow. GP found a little gitch on the office EKG so now I'm red flagged and have to jump through a bunch of hoops. Everyone says don't sweat it--that what they found is not a huge deal. It's totally a pain though. I'm trying to look at it as a really really complete physical! So what did you and the anethesiologist plan for? Have you had that call yet??? What are your preferences?

Hey Sharon,

Glad you can ditch the hardware!  Well at least with all the tests there should be no suprizes come surgery day.  I get a really rapid heartrate and the BP can go up when I am anxious.  So I'm sure it's up there right now.  I do check at home and mostly it's fine.  117/75 ish unless there is something stressful going on.  Then I can hit 130/79 with a pulse over 100. So my GP is really watching it. I am trying really hard to keep from taking a beta blocker.  The last one I had made my hands and feet so cold I needed mittens in my house!  We figured the problem was not really me, but the Allegra D I had been taking for years.  So take away the decongestant and voila!  Much better numbers.

The hospital is about 2 hours away.  So nice long drive.  I prefer GA myself, makes me more tired after but I do not want to have any idea what is going on.  Also there will be a femoral block.  That should be nice, not setting it up, but after the surgery.  I don't think I am going to like the set up at all!  Well maybe they can start something so I will be very relaxed when we get to that part.  Wouldn't want to set the heart monitor off!  I tend to freak when the put the IV in, so ...  I get over it quick enough.  I am a bit leary of a spinal block as my grandfather had one for a surgery and had trouble with the feeling in his feet and legs after.  That was like a zillion years ago, but it's one of those family stories.

Hope all the rest of the testing goes well.

Milly,

I'm going to wish you the best for your surgery today, for we are leaving to go on vacation and will be offline most likely the entire trip.

I hope all goes well and will look forward to hearing from you when you are on the other side.

Well the medical place was closed on Saturday.  The Apple Store did not have a replacement Ipod for my daugher.  And I had to wait almost 5 hours until my appointment came up at the apple store.  UGH!!
I at least got a good pair of new balance.  What do you do?  The Apple store set it up for me to ship the ipod back and get an enchange.  I had to order the pillow and I it should get here when I get home from the hospital.  At least I sure hope so.  Well we'll see.  Getting my bag packed for the hospital.

Annette - Thanks.  Have a good trip.

Milly,

You're big day is coming up quickly, but it would like you've got a handle on getting things done ahead of time.

I can put weight on the leg as long as I'm in the brace locked at 0 degrees.  Now that the block has finally worn off I can at least trust it now, so hopefully no more falls for me.

Keep us posted.

I'll post more tomorrow, but need to try and help hubby get supper on the table.  Hubby has been great and can even be trusted iwth the laundry.

Hi Milly:
Well hopefully you got your bag packed this weekend. And a new pair of shoes out of the ordeal!! I love New Balance-the "country walkers" are fabulous support.
When are you expecting to be discharged? I hope your pillow arrives before you get home.
Hey, I keep forgetting to ask -- is that little picture YOUR motorcycle by you name??
Oh, and from your earlier post, yes I bet they will give you a sedative prior to the block. I was told you get a sedative pretty much right away....which is good because if they don't knock me out fast I'll be running for that door!

Hey Sue -- your block wore off FINALLY!

Hi Milly~
Wow! It's late but, I'm trying to stay awake. Roxy has been doing this thingy all day with pillows and blankets...scratching and bunching them up. Then, finally plops down UNDER them and pants really hard. She'll growl if anybody comes near her while she's doing this thingy, too. Is she nesting? ??? It is really bizzare behavior, imo. It's kinda funny to watch, though. So, still watching and waiting for contractions to hit her. Jeez! She must be one of those 3 day labor folks or somethin'.

Hey! Are you driving to the hospital the day of surgery or the night before? Mine was late am but, super glad we were already up there. Didn't sleep much the night before, ya know. Probably wouldn't have been able to sit still in the car that long, either. The ole nerves would've really racked me up. AM traffic + surgery the same day did not sound lovely at all. Is your hubby staying in a hotel the night after surgery?

Alrighty, new shoes!! Just what ya need to start post-op PT off the next day! ;) Are the crutches spiffed up? You should be all good now. Don't forget your break-away pants, ok? You'll prob'ly have all sorts of "stuff" sticking out of your knee to work around, too. I'll bring ya some stickers to finish off the sticks, lol. How 'bout those pair of wings that Miranda stuck on mine? Got a black cat, lightening bolts, and radio stickers, too! Kids! ::) Must've worked what it was supposed to cause I'm surely walkin' now. Too bad it just can't last longer though, ya know? 40 min. tops, just ick!

Hey! I met somebody yesterday that had tattooed BOTH knees. Oh my! That looked sooo painful! Thought the ying/yang (?) would cover a scar pretty nicely, though. Never did get into painting my skin. So, why start now? A henna DOES work, though. Just didn't last very long. Did it just for giggles.

Sounds like you've got it together for this week! Shoot! We're pros at this stuff now. Actually think that's a pretty sad thing to be good at but, cheers to being ALL DONE with this one! ;D Rock on, chica! Your other knee will be jealous very soon! Happy pre-op nesting to you, too! Chat with ya later...
