Popping and Cracking with pain AFTER debridment
« on: May 07, 2009, 05:34:40 PM »
Hey yall, most of yall know me, but heres a little back ground:  Feel on wet floor 9 months ago diagnosed with OC impaction fx MFC, had MFX, it failed and was sent to Baptist Hospital OS sports med specialist who suggested OATS.  Well when she went in with the scope the damage was too extensive for OATS I had like 4 defect in all ranging from grade 4 to grade to, like MFC, trochlea, posterior MFC. So all she was able to do was debridment.  She is referring me to Dr. Andrew Collins at Greensboro Orthorpedics, for ACI or possibly even PKR.  I am 40 years old, and I use to be quite active, volleyball, walking swimming.  Right now I cant do anything not even swim.  Ok my point is, since the debridment, I am having alot of popping and catching, I never really had this before well maybe occasionally.  But now its all the time, and it freaking hurts like heck.  I really dont understand it, I mean she cleaned up there shouldnt be anything in there loose, right?  Ok KGs I need your help yet again, plz give me some advice, my appt with her is in like 5 days. By the way the debridment was performed April 27, 2009.

Hi there,

When they do debridgement the OS tries to get as much stable cartilage as they can.  It may still be worn in places which may be causing the popping etc.  My popping and cracking came back over time as well.  Once the damage is done, it usually gets worse.  There should not be anything loose, but could still happen.  It may also just be that the scar tissue needs to be worn down.  That will pop and crack too.  Depends on how long it's been since surgery.  Tell your OS at your appointment what you are dealing wth and see if it is a normal thing at your stage of healing.  Good luck and hope it resolves for you.
