Finally gettin a new brace...
« on: August 30, 2003, 04:13:11 PM »
Hi all,

after more than half a year, I am getting a new brace!! I've been wering the very cyber-looking MosGenu, but now I'm getting the Softec.
http://www.kneeshop.com/softec1.htm

Is anyone familiar with, or has anyone used this brace before? I'm hoping I can at least wear a regular pair of jeans over it...!

Thanks!
Liz

I used to wear the Genutrain also by Bauerfeind and I could wear my jeans over it! I now sometimes wear it on my other knee. I had a brace like the Softec you mention for playing sports (but tis another brand), it gave lots of stability and learned me to trust my knee again. Now I am back on wearing the Genutrain when playing sports and I would like to play without it but my OS and another doc advised me not to throw it away, just keep wearing it he said!

Good luck!!!

Helena,
I have  a Genutrain brace but it is specific for the left knee. How is it that you can use yours for both knees?
Just curious,

Helena,

did your Genutrain have those charming 'wheels' on the sides that stick out about 5cm? Or do you wear baggy jeans?
I tell ya - I searched high and low to find trousers to fit over the thing!!

It looks like this:

I'm hoping it'll give me the support I need without making me feel like elephant woman...!

Liz,

My brace isn't as large as the one  you're wearing so it is a big difference. I don't wear baggy jeans, just the normal stretch jeans, I can even wear it under my cotton work pants.
Here's a pic http://www.kneeshop.com/genutrainmini.jpg

The brace was measured by a orthopedic specialist but since I did loose a bit of weight (20kg+) it is now a bit large. When i play badminton it stays in place due to all the sweat I'm producing :o, otherwise it is slipping down my leg and then very uncomfortable.
I believe you can wear it on both knees, I now sometimes wear it on my R knee when i am in a lot of pain, luckily it isn't that often, I now mostly wear a tubigrip which also gives some support and painrelief and it fits ok.

I don't have a brace of the other Brace I used to wear while running etc, but it is bigger than the genutrain...
