You should not set off the metal detectors...I fly alot for work with 3 screws and 2 washers from my last TTT revision and have never (not once) set off a metal detectors. If I ever do all I plan on doing is showing my scar which is what my OS told me to do.
Best of luck,
Karen

I have had 2 PKR and only once set off the detector. They told me they had the detector set on sensitive because of an alert. I had a card from the OS but they did the wand anyway, even though they could see the scar. It is no big deal.

my mom had a metal rod in her tibia after a car accident, which is much larger than a few screws. It did set off the detectors in the late '90s, but a hand wanding of her bared leg resolved any security issues easily enough without any doctors notes back then.
I wouldn't be too worried about it. You could always make a "test run" to the local courthouse before you fly somewhere to get an idea of how the machine might react if you're worried and have never been through one before.

I haven;t been on an airplane since my PKR but my OS did give me a card to carry in my wallet in case I set off any security alarms/metal detectors . You might want to ask your OS for similar.

I agree with Caroline. I know someone that has the card after having a knee replacement.

I do not believe a card is offered for for the hardware of a TTT only a replacement.

Hi Faye,
I have had a TTT on both knees, and have flown a few times. With my L knee it set off the metal detectors a couple times but all i did was show them the incision and they wanded right over top of it and no problem whatsoever. I have since had the L knee hardware removed; with my R knee i have flown twice now and have not set off any detectors at all. So i think it all depends on the airport equipment, etc. All in all it is not a problem at all, you should only have to show them the incision and they will likely just wand over it.

Depending how the airport security is.. depends if you will set off an alarm. Be prepared to be felt up.. if you do trigger it.
Just one of those trade off's you have to deal with for being able to walk.

Hi Friendsfan,
Don't think you will have a problem.
I've got a number of nails in my knee from my op last year and hasn't been a problem travelling. If you are concerned, speak to your OS's rooms.
Have a great holiday !!!
