I guess I should give more detail. I fell twisting my right knee. The MRI showed a complete tear in my PCL and a cleavage tear in my medial meniscus. This happen 02/22/09.
I have very little swelling left and pain is not as bad , but
I can't put pressure on it or bend it very far. I feel that if I go ahead and get the surgery over
i can start get better.... what do u all think?

Hi there,

I hate when this happens. It is sooo frustrating.

It can be sooooo hard to know what to do when you are in this situation.

My suggestion would be to get another opinion from an Orthopaedic Surgeon that specialises in knees.

Good luck !!!

I agree you need another opinion.  Is the pt person you are seeing asociated with your os?  Could that be why they don't agree?  Start asking family and friends for references for both pt and os.  Be prepared though the next opinion might be different still.  eagle

Well, and it may be that ULTIMATELY they agree, but the OS wants to see how much you can progress prior to any surgical intervention.  A PCL doesn't always have to be fixed and neither does a meniscus.  I think before getting other opinions, I'd sit down with the surgeon and talk about it in a little more depth.

Hi there,

I have to say that i agree with Dig, as i to have been told by my OS that surgery will likely be the next step for my knee, but wants me trying PT first. It is just your OS wanting to try some conservative treatment before deciding to go ahead with surgery...avoiding surgery if you don't truly need it is a good thing! If you don't feel comfortable with your OS definately do not hesitate to get a second opinion.

Agree with the above. also sometimes insurance won't cover  surgery unless you tried conservative treatment first. Personally - I also think it is unprofessional of the therapist to say he/she disagrees without first speaking with the OS and seeing where they are coming from. The PT could have hedged it by saying- let me talk to the OS and see what the results are. Just my humble opinion and of course my assumption that the PT did not do this.

This was my second opinion .The first one wanted me to have surgery.  You may be very right about the insurance.  I told the therpist what the MRI  report said. He is going to do everything he can do to build me up for maybe surgery.
Thanks for your help.
