PASTE GRAFT - DR. STONE ... Has anyone had it???
« on: February 28, 2009, 02:54:42 AM »
Hi, I'm a candidate for a TKR which I don't want :(  I'm sure many of you can relate to that.  I'm seriously considering the Paste Graft technique used by Dr. Stone.  I read Mayme's post about her excellent results!  If anyone else has had this, please tell me about your experience.  Also if you are willing to email, you can contact me at [email protected]  Thank you!!  Susan

I'm looking into the paste graft surgery by Dr. Stone.  Does it work?  I would very much appreciate anyone's experience with that?  I have to have surgery done soon on my left knee cartilidge damage and my dr. here in ny recommends microfracture surgery.  I wanted to know if the stem cell paste graft microfracture surgery would work better?

First of all Dr. Stone does not accept insurance, so you will have to pay out of pocket. Second, none of the top cartlidge specialists in the country use this technique, so that tells me something. If it was so great how come none of them are using it. third off, I went to see DR.Stone over a year ago with knee pain after seeing several other doctors. I had Mri xrays etc. none of which showed what was wrong. It wasn't until I chose a surgeon and decided to have them scope my knee. They found a lesion in both knees at the trochlea 1.5cm2. I chose microfracture in one knee and just had aci in the other knee. Dr. Mandelbaum performed both. Bottom line Dr. Stone stated after not finding anything on the mri that my pain was reffered pain and coming from my hips. As you can see that was total BS.

April 2008 microfracture left knee trochlea
Jan 2009 ACI harvest from right knee
Mar 2009 ACI right knee trochlea
July 2009 Aci left knee
Nov 2009 left knee scope to check graft

I've just the other day sent Dr. Stone all of my MRIs and xRays to see if I am a candidate for the paste graft. Maybe the reason no one else does it is that he has the patent on the procedure?? Can you actually patent a procedure?  It looks like it's been 3 years since anyone added to this thread.

Sorry it took a while to respond, haven't checked this site in a while.  I had a medial meniscus allograft transplant by Dr. Stone.  Didn't work....had more pain, less function along with cartilage issues afterwards.  About 7 years later had an osteochondral allograft transplant by Dr. Riley Williams at HSS.  The recovery sucked....BUT I ended up doing great.  You have a window to get the procedure done as the older you get the harder it is to recovery.  You can reach me at [email protected] or my website www.physiquetherapy.com

Best of luck,

Keith
