Hi.
As you will see I am new to this however wanted some advice - I am due to have patellofemoral Realigment done on my right knee at start of March.
Background - I have had pain in my right knee since 2004 after in slipping while walking, originally the scan I had showed some damage to the cartilage which was sorted during an arthroscopy, This helped with some of the pain in the short term however the pain came back and worse than before, my OS then decided to do a lateral release as my kneecap was'nt sitting properly, again this helped in the short term but then I started to get a lot more movement of my knee cap so I was then sent for physio which aggrevated it further.
Physio felt that my kneecap was subluxing, eventually I was referred back to my OS who advised that the realignment was the best course of action. I have lost count of the number of visits to A&E in the last year because my knee has locked or kneecap clicked out of place.
His secretary advised that he plans to do a Tibial Tuberosity Transfer, Medial Reefing and Distal Medialisation. Obviously I am a little bit hesitant regarding this as with each operation I have been told it was a success and then found myself back to square 1 again within a few months.
Another thing I was recently advised of was that I was Hypermobile with a Beightons score of 9, though not sure what this means in relation to my knee.
Am I doing the right thing with this surgery, obviously my OS thinks it will do the trick.
So a couple of things I wondered is:
What experiences have people got regarding this surgery in england as a lot of what I have read is from America.
Also any advice to help post op would be great - I work in an office but have an hour each way commute by train each day, will this impact in how quickly I can get back to work?
Thanks
