Knee sticking out, no pain

About 3 weeks ago I noticed my left knee was sticking out inwards more than the other. I do weight exercises, once a week I do squats and calf raises and on that day, before I was going to start, I noticed my knee felt weird, I guess slightly unstable. I went ahead anyway, figuring since it didn't hurt it was OK or something stupid. The next day, I can't remember if it felt worse but when I looked that is when I noticed the difference.

I saw my GP and she said it's nothing internal as there is no swelling under the kneecap, but it's not getting any easier. My knee feels strange all the time, I try not to put weight on it, it feels like it has started slipping and popping, and one time when I was leaning my hip started popping too.

Do you think it could require medical attention? What kind of person should I go to see for it? Money is pretty tight and I am having to order lots of tests at the moment for thyroid problems, so this has cropped up at an awkward time.  :-[

Edit: Might be worth mentioning I have flat feet, I have a pair of insoles but I wasn't using them when I exercised.

You might have an alignment problem with your knee, this can also be a result from having flat feet.  I have an alignment problem and often get a strange feeling in my knee sometimes, like it's going to give way.  Having an alignment problem can easily be fixed with physiotherapy.  If it is left it can result in cartilage problems.  I have no idea why you're getting a popping feeling in your hip, it may be due to you not putting weight on your leg.  It'd be a good idea to see a specialist to find out what exactly is wrong with your knee and get it sorted out before you damage it badly.
