FDA advisers ban Darvon

Did anyone else read this? The article says Darvon is markets as Darvocet. I'm concerned because this is one of the only medications for pain that doesn't give me itching and hives. I get so bad I end up at the hospital for injections from the reactions. Just wondering what others thought of this. eagle

eaglemom ~ I did hear about Darvon & the FDA suggesting its removal from the market after all these years. Apparently the fact that it's a commonly abused drug is what's prompting the talk. Here's an article that might help:

I saw the story about Darvon/Darvocet too. Vicodin, after my 1st knee surgery, made me feel sick (nauseous) so I've been using DArvocet for the next 4 surgeries. Hoping it isn't banned. I only took it after surgery and before my knee replacement when my knee was so painful at night, I couldn't sleep. I have some left from September's replacement that I'll hold on to.

I just don't understand - ALL medicines have side effects, ALL. Given this medicine has been around 51 yrs I'd think every possible side effect would be known. I certainly don't mean to sound insensitive but anyone taking too much medication might commit suicide. Of course they are saying its in effective for pain relief - for me its very effective. Seeing the os this afternoon and hopefully will be able to ask about this - along with my list of items to cover!

I eagerly await the word you get from your OS, eaglemom. Makes little sense to me, either. Granted there are so many new pain meds since the time Darvon or Darvocet came on the market but if it works....!

Hi Ellie! Glad to see some other CT person here (although I'm sure we all would rather not have knee issues).
