Well done Macker!

I'm just back from a weekend in the Salzburger Sportwelt - closing weekend at the Sportwelt Amadé region and had a good day yesterday skiing with people from London in Obertauern. They are stranded as they were supposed to be flying back tomorrow with Ryan Air. I suggested either doing a car hire with one of the big boys or going by train. Currently there is no air traffic in Austria or southern Germany.

My ski season now changes to glacier skiing for the rest of the summer to get fit for my ski instructor re-assessment in October. The snow today in Zauchensee was very very sugary and heavy at the bottom but was in good condition at the top. I will probably ski a couple or more times at Obertauern before switching completely to glaciers.

Where were you based then Macker? I'm only an hour and half from Obertauern and about 2 hours driving from Kaprun and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. The Zillertal with the Hintertux glacier is about 90 minutes driving as well.

Hey Macker,

My knee is doing very well-if I overdo things, she swells a tad, but nothing too bad.
My dance studio doesn't have class this year on a good day for me, so I'm left doing
my DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) at home on my PS2! But I'm still up and dancing at least!

Sooooo happy to hear you talk about the skiing thing! Cheers to happy knees!

Hey Macker - you were only about 80kms from where I live!

I have skied Saalbach-Hinterglemm quite a lot. I don't like the villages much but the skiing is great. My quickest way in is to drive to Leogang and use the connections to get into the Saalbach-Hinterglemm circus.

Where are you looking at going next season? Sadly I have to say avoid France unless you like getting ripped-off more than at home! Most of the big set ups used by the tour operators are seen as cash cows by the people running the places and they milk it for all its worth!

Nice to get an update Dancer - long time no hear! The swelling does slow down after a while, my left knee still swells a little but the right knee does not swell at all any more.

KP-Sue,
Thanks for that info! After I read it I realized that compared to a year ago,
certainly the swelling isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. My hubby has a friend
who says now after many years, she doesn't even think about her knee surgeries.
(two ACLrs) I didn't think I'd ever feel like that, but as time goes on, I'm beginning
to think it's possible!!!  :D ;D 8) :-*

Hello KP_Sue.  I work at a college, and we usually go away in easter.  However easter falls later next year, so i doubt we will be going to Saalbach then.  We may go there earlier in the year.  I really loved it there, so i hope we do.

regards

Mark

Just let me know when and I'll see what I can organise in the way of a "knees-Up"  ;D ;D

I take it that if it is a college then they are using Saalbach because of its reputation as a Après Ski party town! A lot of colleges and universities use it as their base because the Après scene is mega! That is actually one of the reasons I don't like the towns of Saalbach and Hinterglemm. The week to avoid is Fasching, as the prices are sky high due to it being a holiday week in most of Europe (Fasching Dienstag is the German name for Shrove Tuesday). That is the 8th March next year, which is probably NOT the half term week for most British schools and colleges as it is so late.

Easter is 20 days later next year so (April 24th) we are looking at the season probably ending on Easter Monday in most cases. The date agreed for closure in Austria is always made with the local landowners so the slopes can be cleared up and the grass and soil "rested" before the cattle, sheep and goats are released on to the summer pastures at the end of May.

I am probably skiing in Obertauern this weekend or maybe on the Kitzsteinhorn or Hintertux Glaciers. ut it is due to be very hot so I may just go flying instead! My ski season does not really end as I have the choice of several glaciers all within an hour or so drive!

5 years since my last post.  Well two weeks ago after a Friday evening of a Futsal match, and a Sunday of an hour and a half Futsal training.  Followed by a Monday morning of a squat session in the gum my knee decided to swell up, and i felt like it was back in the rehab stage when i had done too much.  Well i had forgotten about my favourite rehab friend my ice stick.  So i managed to get the swelling down.  I have manage to play futsal since, but boy is the knee sore.  I have had an appointment with the knee surgeon, who is sending me for another MRI.  He did all the tests and feels no ACL, LCL, MCL, PCL damage.  He thinks it is a meniscus tear.

Well I've had a good few years of trying to break it Skiing, Aikido, Football, Futsal  ;D

Well about 11 years after a successful op and back into sport, Football, and martial arts.  I'm back to visit the Specialist with a possible meniscus tear.  I'm 49 now, and have been partaking in football, played veterans level the last 10 years, and Aikido, moving to Ju Jitsu 2 years ago.  Possibly time to retire from Football.  Due to the meniscus problem, i will also change forums.

This forums excellent for anyone going through ACL rehab, one of the reasons i got back to playing sport.  I won't give up totally.  After a black belt in Ju Jitsu.
