Joggin after bucket tear meniscus removal
« on: October 27, 2008, 06:29:28 AM »
Hi,
I am 5 months post op from a meniscus bucket tear removal.  Essentially, they removed half of one side so I got 75% left I guess.

I have had two acl recons on this knee and was able to jog with no pain or soreness.  But now it takes about 3 or 4 days for the pain to subside after jogging.  Has anyone got to the point where they can jog with a meniscus removal with no pain?

Sorry, but my OS told me my running days were over the first time he had to trim my meniscus. He said if I made the decision to run again, I'd only be hurrying myself down the road to a TKR. Once you lose any of that important cushion, you accelerate the process of cartilage degeneration. The more pounding your knee has to take, the faster it's going to wear down. It would be much better for the health of your knee if you switched to low impact sports from now on. Can you bike or swim instead of jogging?

I've been told jogging/running is a definate no-no after I dislocated my knee.  As with so many of the people on this site, it seems acceptance is one of the hardest lessons to learn from these injuries.  I read lots of people finding fulfillment in taking up new activities though, so all is not lost, right?  The popular suggestion from alot of OS is biking, less impact on the knee.  I know it's tough to let go of something you obviously love.  Depends on just how much pain you're willing to put up with and call me crazy, but isn't pain the body's way of staying "Stop that and No"?

I wonder if a podiatrist can fit you with special shoes kind of like the ones forest gump wore.  I don't jog much.....2 to 3 times a week and about 3 miles a time.  I hate biking and the rest.
