Knee question for mom
« on: August 11, 2003, 05:16:35 AM »
Hey guys
I have a question but its not for me its for my mom.

We have been digging a pond in our back yard since yesterday morning, and although we are finally finished as of about two hours ago, yesterday when we started I had the tiller out there and when mom when to start it up it fell on her lateral side of her knee.

At the time we didn't think anythig of it, but just a few minutes ago we had to run to the store, and when we got back home she could hardly get out of the car. When I looked at she has this huge blue lumpy bruise and she says that when she is walking down the stairs she feels as though it is "caving in" backward.

Now as you all know I have had my fair share of knee problems and surgeries, but this one has truly baffled me ???

If any of you guys have any clue to what this might be please share!!

Love,Jennie

Jennie:
I am not sure what is going on with your mom's knee but I just wanted to wish you both the best of luck and hope it is nothing major.  Tonight I would just practice the RICE method and contact the OS tomorrow.
Keep us posted.

Thank you so much Kolleen!

I told her to ice and rest and see how it gets

I don't know what we will do if we are both laid up with broke down knees :P

Hi Jennie,

I am of the very firm belief that knees should not be left to chance.  Please take Kolleen's advice and ice and elevate--and get medcal attention.  If it worsens tonight, she might even want to go to the er--although I'm not ever sure of the quality care a knee can get there.

Too many things can be going on--be cautious with this.  I do hope it is not a big thing, easily cared for and quickly resolved.

Good luck to your mom--and you, :)  Sylvia

Hi Jennie,

How is your Mum's leg today? I hope that she's resting it adn you can convince her to get it looked at - like the others I agree that it's beter to be safe than sorry with knees.

I hope that she gets it seen to soon and it's a really simple thing. Give her my love and know I'm thinking of you both.

Love and hugs....Jo

How's your mom doing? I remember a long time ago when I was a kid, I was hit on the lateral side of my knee while playing a running game in school. It hurt, but I was able to get up and continue on with school for the rest of the day, even going up and down the stairs. But later I was at my friend's house and the knee got so swollen and painful, my dad had to get off early from work and come to get me in the car (big deal back then!). Well, I had torn a ligament (don't know which one....no such thing as MRIs in those days) and was on crutches for weeks and weeks while it healed. So just because you can get right up and go on with things doesn't mean there isn't an injury. If she doesn't feel better, have it checked out!

Hey Everyone

Her knee looks considerably better. Getting your mom to the doctor is I think one of the hardest task to be taken on, she says it feels alot better.

She is walking on it fine today, after she RICEd last night, I told her that it was probably a really bad bruise, if she could do everything she is doing on it.

When I tore my ligaments I could not even stand up so I know its probably nothing that serious. The only thing I told her was that if it started getting bad again to go to my os, because I know how tricky those knees can be :P

Thank you all for your endless support!
Love,Jennie

Hi Jennie--

I'm glad to hear that your mom seems to be doing better--and I truly understand a mother's reluctance to get involved in anything that could incapacitate her in any way.  We have a tough enough time just doing our job under normal circumstances.

Keep an eye on her and make sure she isn't trying to fake you out ;)

Take care--both of you--Sylvia

Thank you Sylvia

As with all of you wonderful mothers, she tries to be superwoman and handle everything, I am not saying this lightly, but we are like best friends, and sometimes I try to hard to take care of her and probably do alot of aggrivating in the mean time, I just don't want anything to happen to her.

And I definitly watch her to make sure she is not "faking me out" ;)

Thank you
