OS ratings in Canada,US,UK and Australia
« on: August 28, 2008, 01:02:49 AM »
Hey There,
I just came across a website where it is possible to check up on medical professionals with whom you might be dealing. It gives an opportunity to read up on what others have experienced with these doctors, surgeons, dentists, chiropractors etc. and to give either a brief good new story or bad news comment along with a rating of 1 to 5. A couple of other knee geeks have checked out their OS's and found the written accounts to be fairly accurate, in both good and bad ways. I found the comments posted for my OS to dead on the money!! In case anyone is interested in checking up on their OS or in researching an OS they haven't yet seen, here is the website. Out of curiosity, I'd like to know how your OS rated and if you found the comment section to accurately reflect your own experience. There are so many of us who've had misdiagnosis, poor treatment and inappropriate care, it would be nice to have a place to hold those "professionals" accountable AND there are so many really great health care providers that deserve recognition for a job well done!!

I look forward to hearing from you all!

This is an amazing site!! I knew my OS would end up with a great rating. He received 4.9 out of 5.  You guys can go check him out (link below). I"m in Ontario, Canada.  He has even helped to "save" people who previously had botched surgeries by incompetent surgeons. He's sometimes considered one of the best in Canada (like maybe top 5). Even though most people have to wait months for orthopaedic surgery over here (we have less specialists than, say, the US), my OS knew the severity of my injury and so he bumped a few people and got me into surgery less than a month after I first saw him! I have friends (here in Ontario) who had other doctors and they had to wait up to 9 months for their surgeries!!

I read through some of the ratings for some other doctors, and OMG, I was VERY lucky to get my doctor. There are so many horrible doctors out there (be it in terms of bedside manner, precision, medical expertise, etc).

i strongly suggest people share this site with friends. And research their OS (if you've never done so before, or heard good things from others on here) before having surgery. It's your knee and it's your future.  Thanks again Candace!! Great site!!!

My doc's rating on that page:

Thanks for the link. I found my OS who did my first 4 knee surgeries---all reviews liked him except for one who wrote "age discrimiination." Although he did my knees, he's really an ankle/foot specialist and someone called him the best in the state in that specilaity. The OS performing my PKR , a partner with the first doctor I mentioned, wasn't listed and my primary care doctor isn't listed, but one of her partners is.
Going to pass this on to others!

Hi kjwilkin,

The site is still fairly new, and I believe they just recently added the section for UK and Australian doctors (so the Canada and US ones have been on there longer and therefore have many more doctors listed).  You should consider adding your OS. I know it won't help you anymore, but it could help someone else in the future.  I added my dentist who wasn't on there  :)

It will be a great site if it ever catches on but it hasn't in the US. There are a lot of doctors on there but there are also more that are not. And even the ones that are on there have very few responses for the most part. Just make sure you take every entry with a grain of salt. All doctors have someone that thinks they were done wrong so don't believe everything you read.

I saw one entry where someone completely trashed a doctor. Luckily, doctors are allowed to post responses. The doctor came on and told the other side of the story. Made for an interesting read.

very true jathib.  people who read the site have to realize that a negative post might be someone who is bitter for a different reason. But if there are a few negative posts for the same doctor, that might help someone think twice (or get a second opinion) before proceeding. also, there could be people who are simply bored and have nothing better to do, so they comment on a doctor even though they've never even seen them! Hey, you never know.  But I still find it a good site (so long as you don't rely on simply one negative comment). i'm a firm believer that "knowledge is power", and so even if a comment might be biased, it's good to have your eyes opened about a particular doctor and maybe read further and see if there's a pattern (or maybe even go see that doctor for yourself and get their side) :)
