acl recon 2 1/2 months on, advice needed please.
« on: August 19, 2008, 08:41:56 PM »
hey im a 22 year old lad from ireland, im 2 and a half months after acl recon with hamstring graft, i was just wondering when should i be able to fully bend my knee, and how far should i be able to bend it by now. i bend it as much as i can till it gets sore and then hold it for 20 seconds, is this the right way? its very frustraiting looking at all my mates playing football when i know i should be out there too, if anyone has any advice it would be great, thanks!

There's a dedicated ACL forum a bit further down. The guys in there are really helpful.

Are you having physio at all? Because you should be. Different surgeons have different rehab protocols, so it's difficult to say exactly where you should be in your rehab, but I would say that even the most conservative surgeons would have you bending at least 90-100 degrees.

Dont force your leg. The way I got my full extension was bending it until it hurt just the tiniest bit and then holding until it no longer hurts. Then straighten it full, and do it again.

It will be a while until you're able to play football again. Dont rush it :)
