It's been horrendous with improvement, but not total reduction of swelling, since about Saturday.....my entire leg is pretty swollen and my foot/ankle are the worst :*(  Kathy suggested wrapping it (as I mentioned) but I'm not all into that quite yet...we're gonna lay me down in Mum & Dad's room and see if laying flat with my leg higher doesn't help...I'll keep ya'll posted.

Oh, my, (blush). You two have been quite busy while I've been away. Not sure I deserve all the nice things you said, Lyndsey. Just glad to be able to help a fellow twistee. There aren't that many of us out there.

Amb,
Have you not been keeping your foot elevated ABOVE your HEART? Too much computer time, perhaps? ;) Try it and see if that helps. Hopefully that will work.
Speaking of too much computer time, I think I just burned dinner. :-X

Later!

Hey A,
Dinner was narrowly saved- just a little bit crispy. :-\
Quote
Its interesting he did your left leg, as your measurements were slightly better however that is the one with the TTT which impacted you medially?

The L one was the one that hurt so very much worse. Plus, I wonder if the positional change of the tibial tubercle affected the measurements.

YUP! Swelling is WAAAY down....It turns out we were being stupid about the elevation & icing techniques we were doing, so my dad came up with the BRILLIANT idea of using the giant ice pack he had for his shoulder surgery (we've both had our shoulders worked on....lol) and moulded it to my leg....anyway, it definitley worked and the swelling, while not gone, is much better. Hopefully it won't come back during the night with my leg being in the immobiliser...I'm going to have to ask Teitge next week how long he wants me to use it and exactly when to use it..I honestly don't remember him giving instructions to me personally.....I guess he didn't, must have been in the orders.

Alright, it's 11:30pm here and I'm TIRED. Going to take a Vicodin then go to sleep.

Congrats, Katie, on making it thru your first surgery. Glad it went well. Once your cast is off, I imagine you'll be able to work on strengthening unused muscles. What surgery did you have? Yes, we all had surgeries. You can check out the post op diary section for more info. I had my femur externally rotated and this past Dec had the hardware removed. Feels much better without the plate.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and excellent outcome!

Im glad to hear a success story about derotational osteotomies. On july 31st of this year I had derotational osteotomies on both of my femurs, fixated by intramedullary rodding and screws, as well as a talocalceaneal coalition removal, its been tough. My hip pain is gone, but my femurs are still not healed so the bone is really hurting with walking to buses and at school, as well as a few screws that stick too far out of the bone, and my ankle is alot worse off that it was, I fell like my pain is getting worse, not better  :'(
I am however getting one screw removed in january as well as an AFO for ankle stabilization, but the thing is Im getting my surgeries through Shriners Children Hospital Portland(Oregon) and when I turn 21 they can no longer help me, I turned 20 in October. Im trying to have faith that itll all work out, but the pain is really discouraging. Ive read stories of people who had similar surgeries and they never recovered and had to use crutches and canes for the rest of their lives, I really dont want to be one of those people.

Helloo :) ,
Ermm i'm due to have a derotional femoral osteotomy, because my hips are at the wrong degree's causing my knee's to frequently dislocate ..
i'm going in for surgery on the 18th July, i'm dreading it sooo much, even though its still a couple of months away :(
Can anybody whose had this done tell me the recovery length?, and how long it took them to be able to walk ?
Thankyou ;D ! <3 xxx
