Sounds pretty normal. It takes a long time for a TKR to heal, way more than five weeks.

I am three months post surgery for a revision tkr and am still takin pain killers every morning - I find that they generally see me through the day but sometimes I have to take two at lunchtime as well.  So 5 weeks is nothing.

I was on painkillers daily for 2 months after my TKR. If you're worrying about getting addicted, don't. You're taking them because you need them.
