Lyndseys Derotation Diary

Well folks, It has been 22 hours since Dr. T derotated my right femur. I am sitting in the hospital in Michigan. They gave me an epidural yesterday before the surgery. They turned it off about an hour ago. I am on narco and toradol. They were going to give me morphine but I want to try to go without it.....maybe not! They're going to hook up a PCA with morphine. It's all good. The hospital great! The staff is awesome!!! and the food is delicious!!
It's really crazy that I look down and see a straight right leg! I'll post again later.

Ahh! Good to hear considering I'm getting it done this summer to my right leg. It was deemed this morning to rotated for other measures.

Fawn,
You're another 'twistee'? It's an elite group, you know.
What are your measurements? Who is spinning your leg?

Lyndsey,
Glad to hear it went well. Isn't the hospital just wonderful...top quality care for sure.
Cat,
I might be a twistee, but I will never join your group of untwisted people. I refuse to allow a power tool to touch my femur! :-P

i haven't found out yet. The results are being mailed to me. They said it was cosidered "miserable malignment" Both the femor and tibia are rotated. I know that last test like a year ago said 30 degrees on my right so I'm guess it's somwere in there, however, dont quote me. This is all new to me. It's hopefully Dr. T. But I just found out I'm move to Califorina.

Cat,
Twisted refers only to femurs.
And yes, you will never be fully untwisted.
Would that make me doubly twisted?

well guys, everything is going so smoothly! I had the epidural removed thismorning. They gave me a morphine PCM. I am really not in too much pain at all. I got up and used a walker to go to the bathroom. I sat up in a chair for an hour and ate lunch. I am just in awe at the care I have received. I am really not too groggy either. I can remeber everything except the surgery. I have really came through well. I did have to get 2 units of blood as a precaution, but that went well. The pt's are going to get me going on crutches in a while so I am going to get some rest.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers, they mean the world to me!

Brianne,
MM means you have twisted tibias too. So I'm a triple twist. Hmmm... sounds like a desert or something.

I just got a shower! YAY! I feel sooo clean! I was up and walking around on crutches and was able to take a shower. It's been nice to be up and around. My leg isn't even that swollen, and the incision looks great. When I get home I will post pics of everything. I don't have a USB cable with me. I think I am going to be able to leave the hospital tomorrow. It will be a long drive home. It took us 7 hours to get here and now that I am moving so slow, it will probably take 10 or so hours to get home. But alas, everything has gone well, and I am really excited to be on my way to recovery. Dr. T said don't worry about therapy until the bone heals in at least 5 weeks or so. Until then I am just supposed to rest up and relax. Let the bone heal. I really feel good. I am off the morphine and have been since yesterday. Now I am on Todadol every 6 hous and Norco every 3 or 4 hours as needed. My pain levels have been really managable and I have really been pleased with the results so far. I can move my knee joint on my own, but I can't lift my leg at my hip. The muscles are too weak from being moved around to change the rotation of the bone.
Well, I have to go, here come nurses!
Talk to you later,
Lyndsey

Hey guys and gals!
It's been a week today! I am at home, and everything is going really well. I am amazed at how fast I am recovering. Today or tomorrow I am going to attempt the stairs at home and try to leave the basement. That is where I am now, becuase I have a finished basement that is like my mini apartment and I have everything I need. The incision looks great, I can't believe how clean it is! All I can see are the steri strips. I can still only bend my knee. I can't lift my leg, but that will come in time.
I just wanted to give everyone an update. The boring part of post op is starting, I am starting to go stir crazy! I have found myself online all the time, just to pass the time and hope the day goes faster. lol.
Talk to you later,
Lyndsey
