I do like the group, I've been going since Feb now and they are all super!!!!!  Except for the part that they make me work......

Yesterday's PT was good.

Bike warm up and then the PT wanted me to try the stairs.  It seems my body has forgotten that it is supposed to use my leg to step up not my hip.  We spent some time trying to master the step up and down but I had a bit of pain and since I was seeing the Dr today she wanted to hold off.

Some propriaception drills again, the only funny thing was when I went to step off the trampoline it was not locked down so I came off pretty fast and landed on my left leg.  She's like "oh dear" and I'm like "oh $h!t, the graft!"  Seems like all is well with the graft after the Dr visit.

I have now been able to maintain full extension for one week!!!!!!!  We seem to be on to the flexion work now.

The OS visit was good, he was pleased with the progress at 5 weeks and took a couple of xrays for the fibula pain.  He said everything looked good and to continue with the PT protocol I am on.  I really like him as he is totally a results oriented kind of guy.  He says that as long as things are moving forward at a reasonable pace to not get wrapped up in the "you should be at 130 this week."  I was like, yeah - tell that to the PTs cause they are always on me for the numbers.

I do find that surgeons are generally not very chatty or have a great sense of humor.  However, I did make them both laugh when I told them the PT thought I was being too wimpy, I am 6'2", way past 150lbs but less than 190 and that makes me bigger than both of them and it's not often I am called a wimp.  ;D

BSG,

That is awesome! Congrats on extension job.  Don't worry about the step ups.  I find that everytime I start something new after surgery I am terrible at it.  But after just one or two sessions, my brain makes the necessary adjustments and it comes back really quickly.  It happened with step ups, step downs, and calf raises for me.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks Guys!!  You are right, it seems the first few times are pretty bad and then I seem to get into a groove and become good at it.  I so want to begin going up the stairs normally even the slow regular way would be better than one step at a time.

Well Mrs. B, I was just feeling left out because you and BSG were off wine tasting while I was just sitting in a lounge chair watching BNL lug cases of beer and soda around all weekend.  That's just not right.  Had to indulge a little.  I'm a cheap date...too much wine for me is a couple of glasses.  I can't drink much.  Still was yummy though.

I want to see BSG go up those stairs backwards like you all have been doing on the treadmill.  Now THAT would be a challenge.  I'm surprised your torturous PT hasn't come up with that one yet.

LOL Lenore!!  Please, don't give them any ideas.  Last week when my PTs were having the motivation session they were teasing (I think) that they only give progress reports for patients that actually progress   ;D  and then they said they would use an alias.  Well, the OS was pleased with the progress and I wanted to screw with the PTs somehow.  I'll have to think of something to zing them with at today's session.  Anyone have any ideas?

BSG - I was thinking the same thing as you.  I didn't want any PT's to be reading this board and getting any ideas.  Can you image walking backwards downstairs that are made out of a balance board type contraption?  That would be a sure trip to the ER.  Of course the busted head and arms would take our mind off knees.

Glad your OS is happy with your progress.  Did you find a way to mess with the PT's today?

LOL BNL, you are so right.  Today when I got to PT she was like "well, how'd it go."  So I looked at her and said the OS didn't want me to see this PT group anymore since I wasn't making enough progress.  She looked at me funny for a minute and then was like "yeah, right - hop up on the table."   :o

Todays session was pretty tame, bike, some massage and manipulation, ext/flex measurement (I really hate that measuring thingie), leg press.  We added step ups today, I think since my appt with the OS yesterday I feel alot more confident in the knee and the graft.  I also found that if I step up rather fast (not real fast but normal I guess) I can do it pretty well.  The PT was actually happy with the technique today so that was a victory.

I also motored around the clinic today with barely a limp and she actually smiled.... ;D

Sounds like you're ready for the next challenge BSG.  If you're doing step ups you're ready for this one.  Try sitting in a straight back chair and rise up with just your op leg.  Don't swing your arms or use your upper body to throw you forward.  Use only your leg to gradually stand up.  It's a great leg strengthener.  (Is strengthener a word?)  I couldn't do this one for a while after surgery and then one day I was able to do it easily.  It's harder than it sounds.
